Halloween gig horror story

I'm already planning on calling them tomorrow evening and telling them straight out that I either get an answer about being blamed or they can look for my replacement as I am done. Heck, it costs me $10 in gas for a round trip to the meeting, its not worth it to me with so many issues I am not happy with.

EDIT: actually I said that wrong. I plan on calling them tomorrow evening and demanding an answer, I'm betting they will tell me I have to wait until Friday's meeting and then I will tell them I'm not waiting, best of luck with the band and I'm moving on. I have had one issue with this band since the very beginning, the bands name is very juvenile and kind of suggests paedophilia and they seem to think its funny. It may have been funny when I was 18, but now that I'm 49 it really isn't a band name I want to tell friends or family.

Something along those lines, I won't post the band name here as I don't want them to find this thread. But it has to do with taking someone's virginity, I'm 49 and there are no virgins in my age range that I'd even consider touching. I have grandkids and am well past this childish band mentality. This has been an objection of mine from the very beginning. I made it very clear I didn't like the name and didn't feel comfortable telling any of my friends of family about it or to even ask them to come and see a show because of the name. At first they acted like they were open to changing it and we were even tossing around ideas, but very quickly it became apparent that they liked the name and wanted to keep it. By this time I was already friends with some of the band members and practices were very productive, it felt good playing with them and it was nothing new for us to learn 4-5 new songs in a week. They had gigs lined up and I was looking forward to playing live again so I just went along with it as I needed the gig money and the gig fun.

Well- here's hoping the meeting goes well for you tomorrow, and some of your fears are allayed. Just for your own peace of mind, that is.

I agree 100% with everyone here urging you to get out of the band as soon as possible. The substance abuse crap alone should be enough to get you high-tailing out of there, man. Not that I don't enjoy beer, but come on. If you drink enough to puke at a gig, you are either a. a damn alcoholic, or b. a selfish prick who can could care less about his musicianship and even less about the other members of the band.

Anyway, hope things work out.

I'm all ready for tonight's audition 100% prepared with enough of their set list to audition and get a feel for how we click. I never felt so calm in my life before an audition. I know I am good enough to get pretty much any audition I want. I'm not great and don't play a thousand notes a second but I fill in the pocket with a groove that makes people want to dance. I have never been turned down after an audition, I have turned bands down though. I am also good enough that I can tell if they are beyond my skill level and I can pretty much tell if I would be wasting their time and mine pretty quickly by seeing the set list and talking to them about their playing styles. I don't bother with auditions with musicians that I know are way beyond my skill level. I know who I am as a bass player and what I can and can't do.

You're worlds ahead of a lot of people with that attitude. I only wish that more people were that honest. I've had bands contact me to come audition, and by talking to them it usually sounds like it would be exactly what I want. Then they send me links to their MySpace or Facebook - and what I find there, more often or not, are recordings loaded with off-key vocals and giant trainwrecks. Not something I'm willing to spend my time on.

I agree that you should get out of that band, but I’ll add that I wouldn’t pay for the snake box.

I also agree that they’re, or whomever, aren’t cool with you because you’re sober and they’re not.

Oh, and, at least on this thread, I wouldn’t pay any mind to whatever eSmith said.

Actually, I like eSmith, he speaks his mind and states his opinions honestly. We have both exchanged our feelings and thoughts on this thread and in some things we agree, some we respectfully disagree, but we do it like adults which is much more than I can say about my current band mates. I'm hitting the shower now and getting ready for tonight's audition, I post about it later

Exactly. When I unplugged from the snake it was fine. This was at least 15-20 minutes after my fall. Plus, when I unplugged others had to have already unplgged as well since the snake was already about half empty. I think the biggest problem is they went into it with the "we're playing a party" attitude rather than we are playing a paying gig.

The audition:

They went through a case and a half of beer in about an hour and a half, three of them drinking. I couldn't freaking believe it after I made it so clear that I had no interest in playing with people drinking more than a couple beers in an entire practice session, they managed to drink all this during a very short audition which I decided was over, Next.
