Hampton Roads megaGTG - March 5th, 2011

I'm going to do my best to attend. and bring some bass playing friends. I still have the bass you gave away at the last GTG and am loving it still. I put some SD QP pickups in it, and just put some Roto flats on it yesterday... getting it ready for a new project i'm playing with. the NeuroTim will be my main bass for this gig.

do we need to buy tix for the GTG in advance?

Okay, so I'm seriously contemplating cancelling this GTG. Very little interest, it seems, for all the work I've put in so far.

Disappointing.
How many folks have shown interest? If it wasn't for an already booked gig, I would most certainly be there. Was planning to show my face anyway. I know a few bass cats I can direct your way. Dan Quackenbush (plays for Forte Jazz Band) is one who showed up to the last one. Chris Kohlman (plays for Octane 80) is another. I know a few others. I'll shoot them links.

Dave - only a handful of people. The usual suspects - Riis, John, Dave H., and a few others. So maybe ten.

I'm wondering if the reason for this is the price of admission. Perhaps a fool and his money are soon parted, but with the prizes and stuff that I've been lining up, I was hoping for a more positive response.

A fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place. Given the scope of the GTG, I feel $25 is more than fair. Look at it this way: admission is the equivalent of 5 McDonald's Happy Meals....and those toys / prizes suck.

If TBer's attend and choose to bring their SO's, we can choreograph some side trips to shopping, restaurants, attractions, etc.

Definitely NOT a money thing for me and I'm broke! Just wish I didn't have a gig that day! I'm still bummed about it. 10 is definitely a low number and maybe it is because of the admission fee. Could also be Saturdays are usually gig nights for most working bass players. I did send out a mass e-mail to all my local bass playing friends and asked them to spread the word. I sent them the link to the website as well. I'm trying hard to make this successful for you. Crossing my fingers!

Well, the event's been posted on Facebook (see above) and now on the local Craigslist.

Thanks for sending the invites along, guys, hopefully we'll drum up some more interest in the next week or two.

I talked at length with Jauqo III-X on the phone about a month ago about sponsors/prizes and whatnot, and I'm hoping to get moving on a lot of his advice next week.

Well, I've been really sick since Sunday or so, just woke up and felt like I'd been hit by a school bus. I've spent the last 2+ days on the couch, trying to recover, first day back to work (and I have a feeling it's going to be a short day, even if I have to take personal time). I'll get back on the wagon for the GTG next week, hoping that I'm back to 100% by then.

As far getting the word out maybe you could talk to John Turner about letting you do a mass PM to DC, Maryland, Virginia and West VA Bassists? The GTG forum is definitely one of the least travelled usually because people only look when they're expecting something (the regulars and so on) so it's kind of hard to get the word out here alone.
