Hampton Roads megaGTG - March 5th, 2011

I'll be there.

I wont lie, I saw this on CL and thought it looked shady. Knowing it's coming from a local TBer changes the game. Is there no way to advertise in a virginia event listing? I don't know how one would go about it, and it's short notice now, but it might help.

Plus, knowing that I'll get to meet local TBers (besides Riis, who is already a friend) is a huge plus. Woo Networking.

No, it doesn't. neurotictim = shady....just look at his avatar.

He's also put a helluva lot of work into this project so he gets a pass. Glad you're coming, Michael. And for the rest of you...register now if you've not done so already! Bring your digital cameras and have your picture taken with Mrs. Zooberwerx!

Carry on

Riis

Well folks, here's the deal. I've been wrestling with this for about a week, and I've come to make the executive decision, somewhat late in the game.

With only a handful (less than 10) tickets sold, and lukewarm interest at best, I have decided to scale back the GTG considerably.

The place and time will remain the same - 613 19th Street @ 5pm - but there will be no catering, and no prizes. My band has opted out - not that they don't want to be part of the GTG, but for such a small group as we'll be getting together, it's a lot of work. Sorry, that part is out of my hands.

I will PM Gard and see if he's still down for coming, but that may or may not happen.

Billy Etheridge from Accu-tech may or may not show - I have to call him back, we've been playing phone tag.

I will be refunding the paid-for tickets through Paypal, the few of you that bought tickets will see the refund prior to the GTG, unless you would prefer I give you cash, in which case PM me and I'll have it for you at the GTG. I know and have records of who paid and who didn't, so don't try to pull a fast one on me.

This will still be a good time, but it's just not going to be the grand affair I envisioned. We can order pizza or something as a group, make it a BYOB event, and just sit around and jam. I'll have a table or something set up for a swap-meet kinda thing, and we'll just make the best of it.

I didn't make this decision lightly - I've put a lot of time and pulled a lot of strings to try to make this happen. All things being equal, scaling back is a result of a few things in the mix - the tepid response of the local bass community, the fact that I spent more time on setting everything up and talking to sponsors than I should, and less on marketing/advertising than I should. I had a few people quite willing to help out, and it's no reflection on them that this didn't quite come together the way I'd hoped.

Lesson learned.

We're gonna have a good time, the handful of us that show to this GTG, and the next one is going to planned out well in advance and marketed the way this one SHOULD have been.

So anyway, I'll see you there!

I'll be bringing:

Markbass LMT800
Avatar B410 Neo
various pedals
Warwick Corvette $$ 5
Azola Bugbass EUB
Squier "punk bass"

And trying to sell
Warwick Corvette 5 (if it doesn't sell here)
possibly a pedal or two.

What are you guys bringing?

Well, not quite a crash 'n burn but we came close. I cancelled the strippers I hired from JB's Gallery of Girls so we'll just have to entertain ourselves with shadow puppets and blooper reels from the Finestein bar mitzvah. As far as gear goes, I'll be bringing:

*Acme bass rig

*(3) Dingwalls

*Assorted pedals including a Diamond Bass Compressor

*Susan (technically, she's not gear but well-equipped if you know what I mean)

Look forward to seeing you jolly jokers March 5th. Keep the faith!

Riis

I'll have my ****** steinberger licensed lotus, in piccolo tuning, POG, GK 2001RBP, Crown Drivecore 2000, and Acme low B-4.

Well, I might as well just bring the bass and pedal, as Riis already has my rig + extras. Funny.

It'll probably be in the car, at least.

Take care, guys. See you soon.
Michael

Sorry about the downturn guys, it just means we have to rely on having fun ourselves. ;)

I'll be there, skipping band practice and a birthday party (well, depending on how late we run I may make the party) to hang out with the handful or so that will be making it, and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I've got a long list of "lessons learned" from this go-round, so hopefully come early fall I can put one together with the ideas I had for this one.

Also, for anyone who's interested, there's a Raleigh NC GTG on Sunday, looks like they're gonna have a HUGE turnout, in excess of 40 people. Check the details here:

Just back in from Europe, but managed to talk the wife into making it a weekend down at the beach so I'll see you there on Saturday. I'll make sure I have at least one Wishbass with me!

How are you for rigs/amps? I've got a GB 9.0 and 2x10 that I can bring if you need it.
