Hampton Roads megaGTG - March 5th, 2011

The GTG has been rescheduled for tomorrow @5pm!

Murphy dropped by Beach Hardwood Floors last night and started a fire in one of the electrical panels. No one was hurt, nothing was severely damaged, but there is no power until tomorrow, when the landlord will have an electrician out to repair/replace the old panel.

Jay has worked pretty hard at fixing the place up for us, and is looking forward to seeing all of us out there, but it's just not possible today.

I will be PMing this same message to everyone who has expressed an interest in going, and Jay has written it up large on the front glass - TalkBass GTG Rescheduled for Sunday - so hopefully not too many people are put out by it.

Also, I believe that Thunderitter may already be on the road from the metro DC area, so if anyone has his phone # (I might, I'll have to check) and wants to give him a call, it would be much appreciated.

"When will it all end?!?"(...he says as he grabs his head in anguish).

Okay, which one of you lunkheads walked under a ladder? I'm local and good to go for Sunday. I truly appreciate all the hard work youse guys have put into this project and won't let a simple electrical fire dampen my spirits. Worst possible scenario: if the venue is not ready for occupancy by Sunday, I suggest we at least meet somewhere for dinner (Susan is definitely up for that). We may very well set a record for the first TalkBass GTG which has been contained to a booth at Denny's.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make it down tomorrow.

Glad you had a good time and just sorry as the result of the fire I was 24hrs early! A pleasant 'off-season' time was has in VA Beach anyway!

For those looking forward to the next GTG you should consider coming up the road to join us Northerners on June 26th. There's a thread here if you haven't seen it already.

We're already well into planning for it and it's shaping up well, bigger and better than the one Tim was at in September that inspired him to get GTGs going again down in VA Beach.

Anyway, aside from that I look forward to getting back down to VA Beach in the future.

Thanks Tim, for all your effort into getting this thing going. I had a good time. Good to see some familiar faces again and I met some new guys! Dave H. played a song from his upcoming cd and the song killed! Thanks Dave! Good to see Riis too. Those Dingwalls......man! Gotta find a way to get one! LOL! Dave's Roscoe sounded sweet too!

Looking forward to the next one!

Special thanks to Tim who pulled this whole together despite rain, fire, and other biblical plagues too numerous to list!

Ha! Could have been worse, that's all I'mma say about the difficulties in putting this one together.

Great round-table sort of discussion, too - I'll be taking those thoughts (along with Thunderitter's welcome advice) and others when planning out the next one.

In the meantime, I highly recommend planning on taking the trip to DC for the GTG Dave is doing. He says it's gonna be bigger and better than the last one, and that's certainly a bar highly set!

I'm hoping and scheming to make it up again myself.

Many thanks to Tim for putting things together. I enjoyed meeting everyone and getting to try some gear that was new to me. The Acme rigs were a revelation. Tim, if you ever need someone to babysit that Bugbass I am at your service. Did anyone else notice that only 1 Fender was there ? I'm looking forward to the next time. Kerry

+1 to the Acme rigs. I'm already thinking of finding a new home for my Avatar cab, the Acme's really sounded good, especially with Dave & Dave playing on them.

Bugbass babysitter, eh? I'll keep you in mind - you were rocking it pretty solid, it would be in good hands.

Also, the only "Fender" that was there was my POS "punk bass" that started life as a Squier. ;)
