Thx Surfer. The board is a fantastic piece of Bocote. Keep in mind that's pre-oil. It has a really "3D" look to it. It really will define this bass more than anything else. Body is a nice piece of Walnut. It's gonna be a looker, for sure.

Unbelievable basses! :) Thanks a lot everybody for sending your photo's. I really love them all! By the way JBossolo, is your custom build bass a replica of an Carl Thompson bass? Looks amazing, I love it!

I have a harem of custom gear and would most certainly have to sell most of them at a loss. Thing is, I tend to keep my basses. I've only sold a couple basses I didn't play much, either breaking even, slight loss, or making a few bucks. Probably a zero net loss/gain. About the only custom I might sell is my Rob Allen 5, only because I play a lot of 6 string and my Rob Allen 6 does everything my 5 did and more.

It's actually not as bad as it looks. I'm just really short.

The fingerboard is Dymondwood. Many years of roundwound abuse and it the fingerboard still looks brand new. I took it in a while back to fix a wire that came loose. The fingerboard was so pristine that they asked if I had ever played it. Very tough fingerboard and I've only had to touch the truss rod once every couple of years for a slight tweak.

Wow that's amazing! What's the weight of this thing, it looks like a back killer :p

It's about 12lbs. With the last band, I'd just play it for the first 2 songs and that was enough. Conklin's body is a little on the thick side. I'd think they could save about a pound if the body were thinner. I'm glad they talked me out of a wenge/purple heart neck with walnut wings. That sucker would have been 15-16lbs.

Having learned that lesson the hard way, I am much more conscious about weight. My Cliff Bordwell and Stambaugh basses are much lighter. Still, nothing can compete with a sub 6lb Rob Allen Mouse 30. This tends to be the bass that bands prefer I play and it's really easy to play it for hours on end.

Hmm.. 12 lbs. seems quite alright for a sixer. And yes, I've noticed as well that their body's are pretty thick. I like the SR series from Ibanez a lot. Thin, sleek body's and a thin neck, making if play smoothly.

But all with all you have great gear man! I dig it ^^

Between the 12 hours it takes for Steve to build 'em and the 30 hours it takes me to transform 'em, I'd say that is pretty darn handbuilt!

My CB 7 string is 10lbs, 6 string is about 9.8lbs (if I recall correctly), and 4 string is 7.8lbs.
