I too prefer drilling into studs, but some newer drywall anchors claim to hold upwards of 75 lbs. Even if that's an exaggeration, that should give you plenty of safety margin.

I too prefer drilling into studs, but some newer drywall anchors claim to hold upwards of 75 lbs. Even if that's an exaggeration, that should give you plenty of safety margin.

per the discussion: i like 'em all! wall hooks/hangers, stands of various designs --- anything but leaning the ax up against something (done it!
). 
the axes that i'm currently practicing and fiddling with are on stands within arm's reach. the rest are on the wall. they get rotated from stand to wall to stand.....
At a minimum, drywall anchors should support 25 lbs each. If installed properly, two should support 1+ Mothmen. I only have a flimsy Airline Bobkat hanging on the wall, though.

The bass on a stand is more likely to get damaged by tip-over, rambunctious dogs, errant vacuum cleaners that like to ding things. Doesn't happen near so often to a bass that's hanging on the wall.I think this the only thing you’ve ever written that made me go “Hmmm”…..
You may have seen me write me before that I hate the idea of hanging a bass by its neck on a wall hanger. I know it’s widely done, I know nearly all music store use wall hangers to display basses, I don’t care, I don’t like it. Yes, I’ve bought basses that I’ve taken down off the wall hangers and they were just fine. Still don’t like it.
So I gotta ask…..
How is storing basses on wall hangers better for the bass than using the floor guitar stands?
The only bad experience I had with a floor stand was many years ago when a drunk woman jumped on our stage, stumbled, and knocked over my Alembic bass, which caused the headstock to snap off. The only dumb thing about that incident was having a gorgeous Alembic bass on that bar gig in the first place….

Just be careful of gassing from the rubber. I had a few basses get stained from the gassing that sometimes occurs. Long term hanging I now wrap the parts that come into contact with the finish with velvet from the cloth store.
Some wall hangers (same as floor stands) can have padding that will discolor/stain finishes. Usually cheaper products and non-poly finishes. Not common but be careful. Edit: Oh, I walk away in the middle of my comment and see someone said it between when I started and when I posted. Anyway, bears repeating!
Yeah, I've knocked a few basses onto the floor from a stand. Never had a bass on the wall end up on the floor.
The only thing I think I miss about big, heavy rigs with racked heads is that I was able to attach a hanger from the rack, like this:
I hate to generalize as everyone's experiences are different. In this case I will - anyone who has gigged in tiny, busy clubs like the ones I've been in would immediately understand the advantages of hanging the bass off the rig like this, versus sitting it on a stand on the floor.

Guitars kept in a transit case are never played as it is a pain to remove, tune, wipe down and pack away.
All mine hang on 3 walls in my office/music room and I play them every day.
Today I played 7 of them while going over songs just to enjoy them and also compare the tones through a Marshall VBA. The Marshall makes all of them better.........

Wall hanging is more of a fashion statement to me than anything else. There’s no intrinsic advantage to hanging a bass any more than there’s no intrinsic reason not to hang it either.
You can come up with all sorts of gotchas and scenarios where one way or the other might not be advisable in a given situation. But that’s about it.
If you like the look - and have the wall space - go for it.

I am against wall hangers because when i sell al my basses like the rest of TB (its called "thinning the herd") i have all these empty hangers to stare at.
Gives you a reason to “maintain the herd.”
ie: “Honey, I can’t sell them, the room will look bad with empty hangars on the wall.”
