Except it does. When they kill us in cars, act stupid in bars, and all the other ways they pollute our world. I'm not out to make drinking illegal, or control someone's behavior, but I take exception to the concept that alcohol doesn't have a negative effect in my life. It has had a ton of negative effect, and I can't think of anything positive to say about it. This is a thread about celebrating alcohol. In order for it to have balance, I have to point out that it's not without it's problems, and those problems are pretty significant.

And you've done that. At this point, everyone has acknowledged that you feel this way. They get it. What do you hope to gain by continuing to say the same things over and over again?

I don't doubt that some of the posters to this thread have a drinking habit that is controlled, and doesn't cause them problems. I do doubt that it's a very large percentage of them, however.

How is claiming that most of the people in this thread - whom you haven't met and don't know outside of an internet forum - have an out of control drinking problem not simply straight up trolling?

Because by definition,

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Invalid Link Removed by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion,[3] often for the troll's amusement.

that's pretty much what's going on here at this point.

Ah I missed it... Kettle 1 chased with OJ tonight in retrospect solidarity!

Edit: To be clear, I'm only killing myself and maybe a deer or two. I'm normally swerving all over so it gives children crossing the road and innocent grannies a good chance to get out of the way. I call fair play. But thanks for all who are concerned enough to voice up to absolute zero effect.

So you think you're going to single-handedly change everyone's opinion about alcohol, or guilt them into not imbibing?
What exactly is your purpose for going into a thread about alcohol consumption?

I don't have to answer no stinkin' questions.
We don't need no stinkin' badges.

Here is the final thought on this:

You can scroll right past my posts, and ignore them. You can continue to celebrate alcohol all you want. I am powerless to stop your good time. Or is the truth in my words causing you pain? My one purpose in life is to express myself honestly, within any and all rules and guidelines of any forum where I post. I'm not trying to troll. I made a comment, and someone called me back into the thread. I answered them, and several posters quoted me, begging a response. No one held a gun to my head. No one dragged me into the discussion, but some people engaged me, and I responded with clear, honest answers.

Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.

Besides, now that you mention it, if I make ONE SINGLE person think harder about their own personal alcohol abuse, I've accomplished more than any talkbass off topic thread has in a while.

But seriously, why get all worked up about my getting all worked up?

Let it rest, and it will likely stop.

Get over it. I'm not going to, because people I love have been taken from me, and I will carry the pain right to my grave. NO stopping it. I'm hurt, and around the holidays, celebrating alcohol is a sore point with me, and I have the right to voice my opinion. Don't like it? Scroll past.

I disagree, but I will stop.

Will do.

Hmm, nope. No pain caused by having a few drinks now in then, yet remaining in complete control.

I'm not trying to troll

Hmm.

Had a glass of wine tonight. My car didn't get wrecked, or driven. My wife and children remain unbeaten. Homework got done. Bass got played. Like most people, I consumed alcohol without incident.

You cram something down people's throats, hoping they'll swallow. Instead, they choke...
