I agree, Modulusman has toned back quite a bit on his negative tone. I guess he had the fear of Mods put into him...

And he is 1000% right they don't stack up to the Yamahas, or QSCs or even Electro Voice, but they do function well for what they are. Plain and simple.

Yamaha DBR12 presently at $499.99 each with a $100.00 / pair rebate offer. So assume you take the rebate... $449.99 each.

The Yamaha's are roughly 2.65x more expensive than the Harbingers.

Just FWIW, if I had the $$ I would snap up a pair of those Yamahas, but I don't. And even if I did right now, I would snap up a paid off bill first.

Now long term, I need my band mates to chip in on PA, or we need to work something where band funds go into PA. But then again, if I get a guitarist rage quit on me, I won't be losing my PA any time soon...

You may not like the tone of my message but I really am trying to help. One of those yamahas would be louder than a pair of the Harbingers so you could get by with one for now and add another later. I had a DBR12 for about 6 months and actually used it as a monitor and a bass amp. I played gigs with a classic rock band using it as the only bass amplification and it didn't break a sweat. Try that with you harbingers and get back to us with the results.

I was actually looking at the DBR10s, not the 12s, which are $399 each not including the rebate, as I thought it was the 10s Modulusman had recommended in his other post. 131 db in the 10s. Still twice the price of the Harbingers, but getting closer and 700 bucks is pretty good for a pair of speakers of that quality. Insanely light too at 23 lbs!

Somebody had a year old DBR10 with a speaker stand listed on craigslist about a month ago for $275.00. I almost bought it until I reminded myself that I already own 13 PA cabs counting subwoofers. GAS can be hard to control sometimes.

Just a quickie update. Outside of this forum, I have yet to see or hear any complaints about the sound of the Vari V2112 power speakers. They have been reliable for handling infrequent, but handling gigs. Our busiest month was 4 gigs, our slowest months were 1 gig. So in the last 15 months we have played out approximately 30 times with these, short show was 2 hours, long show was 6 including some DJ time. (that one hurt me but I digress).

Care MUST be taken when moving them due to the location of the built in mixer / controls. I have used some pretty dense foam stuff from a fabric store, I guess it might be like stiff memory foam, but it keeps the knobs from busting off...

They replaced the model I have, with a newer one that features a full coverage screen / grille. Other than that, it seems to be the same speaker.
