Harley Benton Enhanced Series

Lee!

Thanks so much for the video of the jazz bass and your input about the P. Did you ever get the pickup issue resolved?

Would you be willing to do a brief video with the P? If not, maybe a little more insight?

I'm seriously considering selling some gear to raise the funds to pick one up. I've been playing a Rumblekat medium scale bass for a few months, really trying to bond with it, and it. is. just. not. working.

So I've learned my lesson and want to return to the P bass world and when I saw these at Thomann I got super excited. I had a Harley Benton acoustic *uitar that was absolutely incredible for the price so I have a good opinion of the brand already. I absolutely love the aesthetics of these basses and am praying they are as nice as I hope they are.

I appreciate any other feedback you can offer. Thanks!!

I haven't dug into the P any further. Part of that is laziness, part of it is being real busy with my ears business, and part of it is the fact that I have several other basses. I'll get around to it. It's a VERY solid bass. Again, I wouldn't let the issue with the bridge pickup on this one bass scare you away. It's an easy wiring issue, and it's an easy fix.

Do you have any specific questions?

I had seen some things that people were concerned about the neck pickup being configured in an odd way and too close to the bridge that might prevent it from sounding like a real "P bass"

Just on the split pickup, did you find that?

Also, is there any kind of tone control when it is in passive mode?

OK, this thread has moved more towards the P/MM side, but I have a natural J/MM one and I LOVE THIS THING!

I am really a standard J kinda guy, but I can't resist a good deal, so when one of these came up as a b-stock, I decided to get it. I figured, if they allowed splitting the coils on the MM pup, I could get some J sounds and a whole lot more.

So here's what I'm lovin':

1. The body feels like there's hardly any finish at all, but it is silky smooth. It looks and feels great.
2. I have this bridge on a couple of my other basses and I love it!
3. The tone is really better than I expected and I don't know if the thin finish has anything to do with it, but I really can feel the body vibrate when I play. And it is very responsive to right hand placement.
4. The strings. I don't know if someone changed the strings and then returned it or not, but these strings on this bass just SING! This is only the second bass I've bought where I was in NO RUSH to change the strings out.
5. I changed the switch that splits the coils on the MM pup so that I can split to either coil, or leave them in series. So in addition to the J/MM tones, I can play it as a standard J with something approximating 60s or 70s spacing (I did a similar thing with a passive 4 string SX J/MM).
6. All of this PLUS a 6 bolt neck, stainless frets, and active/passive flexibility!

Wow! The ONLY thing I might have done differently if I was having it custom made would be a little chunkier neck.

Do you have any idea what the p weighs?

You guys are evil. I bought an enhanced J (natural), and I was happy with it! Then you guys had to go and pique my curiosity about the P version! I'm a J player at heart but, like i said, my curiosity got the better of me:

I need to spend some more time with it before I know whether or not it will become a main player, but the quality (both of mine are b-stocks, btw) is great!

got me one too and i'm positively surprised. this basses are really fun to play. The Sound is not exactly the one of the the Sandbergs, but with a little bit of tweaking it gets very close. To bad there is no tone blend in passive mode.
While taking it apart i found out that they use these Preamps here

Whereas not all of the connectors are used.
do you guys think there might be a way to upgrade the passive toneblend with this?
