Harley Benton PB-50 Vintage

I've had this thought about putting an Artec Sidewinder in one.They fit the style of the bass perfectly and as I was lucky enough to pick up
a deko PB-50 last month the donor bass is here.

Thats got me thinking lol, I really like the visual style of the PB-50 though so not sure if I would add a sidewinder to my bass but looking forward to seeing how yours turns out , please make sure to upload pictures.
On a related note I would be interested to hear peoples opinions of the available aftermarket pickups

I like the look of the Telecaster bass but not the big o' pickup at the end of the neck. More like this one.
After market pickups I'm never sure about,I remember the time when Dimarzio was the only player in town and Seymour Duncan was a man not a company
Prior to the PB-50 I've only ever swapped pickups once and that was on my Peavey Zodiac DE,the Seymour Duncans went out and Entwistle Neos went in. These
are by Alan Entwistle no relation to the Who bass player,very well thought of on BassChat but that's a European site and Entwistle's English.Here there's a bias
to mainly American.
vdub75 seems to be the man to ask having put a Haussel in his one time then his Fidelitron Cabronita idea
Guess you can say I like that idea.
Off to buy solder now to finish the PB-50 SF. Looking forward to hearing it. It's looking a bit dark so maybe a change of scratchplate. What's your thoughts ?

Would be interested to find out how the wilkinson pickup in the pb-50 compares to the pickup in a fender single coil p bass, is the wilkinson an accurate reproduction of the tone of a vintage single coil p bass pickup ? How close does it get to a vintage single coil pickup?, if anybody here has tried a fender single coil p bass and the harley benton pb-50 i would love to hear your comparison
Has anyone tried to strip the finish off a PB-50? If so, can you report on what you have discovered?
I haven't stripped mine but what you see under the clear coat is in essence a picture of wood grain, not the actual wood.
That sounds good, I may just get one next order to Thomann, e. 100 that is next to nothing, Squier is 5 times the price now. Hope for no dead spots, hope for no dead spots, cross fingers, knock on wood a couple of times.
Best of luck, Rogerb. I know the neck on mine was perfect. Didn't even need to tidy up any frets, which was an issue I believe some people have had with some HB models.

I bought this as my first bass. Playing it sitting down, as it's too heavy to have it strapped on.
My digital kitchen scale reports 4.6kg (10 pounds 1 ounces).
Overall, I'm satisfied learning bass on it. Got the action down to 2.8mm (.110 inches or 7/64th) low E string at 17th fret.
Which appears to be average.

Is this bass equivalent to a Squier Classic Vibe 50's? I ordered one and I'm planning to modify it to look like a Sting Signature P-Bass but I don't know if it really worth such an investment.
I don't know how equivalent it is to a Squier but it is a crazy good bass that only needs new strings and maybe a setup and is good to go.
I had to pay almost 3 times it's price (thanks, Brazilian Government). I'm not expecting too much. Just a cool single-coil bass that sounds ok. I'd buy a Squier Classic Vibe 50's if it doesn't cost around € 1100,00 here. If there's any grammar error or any concordance problem, feel free to tell me

Please accept my apologies for a late reply. I typed one out this afternoon but forgot to hit send
The build materials on both the HB and the Squier are the same. The main difference is the pickup , those labeled
"vintage" tend to have a low wire wind count. This means they have a lower output,the Wilkinson has quite a high
output. String choice will do wonders to find a happy medium. My good brother @subdude67 uses GHS while I prefer
TI Jazz flats.
The PB-50 is a very good bass without any modifications,I know an English fella who toured for a couple of years with
his in a 50's Rock & Roll revival show.The tour's now finished and it gets played weekly for Blues gigs.
Hope you find the same enjoyment myself and subdude67 get from you're PB-50.
