Harley Benton RB414CS

What do you guys think of Gator Cases and Gigbags? I'm undecided if I should go for the Gator Foam Case for Bass and the Gator GC-Bass ABS Case or something similar from Thomann's own brand, from what I've read and heard Gator should be better quality, even if a bit higher where price is concerned compared to Thomann's own brand. What do you guys think?

Would this gigbag fit the RB 414?

Lots of discussion about the subject of your question here
Gig Bag Vs. Hard Shell Case

I was wondering if you guys could tell me which pickups could I use for my RB-414
I would avoid any of the ones in the Thomann link, most will require surgery. Seymour Duncan is a familiar brand name but familiar does not always equate with good.

I had more than a few basses with Duncans and have yet to see the attraction, folks do like name dropping so perhaps that's the draw.

One issue you will face swapping pickups is string spacing. The majority of Ric replacements are drop-in parts, the RB-414 scale length and bridge design differ from an actual Ric so the strings/pole pieces do not line up 100%.

Not a major issue but one to avoid if somebody is self conscious about owning a 414 and would rather not try to explain away the mismatch as an attempt to "improve" their bass.

With that out the way, here are a couple of my recommendations.

Dave Konig's Retrovibe offers a few versions.

Another option is Eric Customs from EY Guitar Parts, their Thunderbird replacements are fantastic.

My RB 414 just arrived yesterday, now I can fully say that I'm a Harley Benton and RB 414 owner! Here are the pictures of the bass, so far I haven't found any blemishes or defect except one in the back that's very small and hard to notice until you're looking for it. Sorry for the bad lighting we have a heatwave going on and opening the blinds or the windows is just asking the house to become an oven. It's so light and so confortable to play!

Congratulations. Isn't it amazing just how good of a bass Thomann is selling? I've got one in my stable.
I also just ordered one of the new Harley Bento Marquess 4 string in blue.. I post when it arrives

Has Thomann replaced the selector switch out for a toggle switch?

I bought one of these a while back and the fret rattle is starting to bother me. i've raised the saddles a bit and checked the neck relief, neck is straight and the saddles don't want to go any higher, i think i'm just not a qualified setup guy. i don't live in a big city so there isn't a local guitar shop that could do me a proper setup, and i've watched a half dozen youtubes about it but haven't found much helpful.

i'm thinking of selling it.

Any chance yours is black? If so, I’d be interested in buying.

already sold it sorry

now i just gotta work on my P-bass . . . neck is bowing forward too much, i've turned the truss rod maybe half a turn already and doesn't seem to be fixing it, a little scared to keep tightening it, as everything says you shouldn't have to hardly turn it much

A) When was the last time you did adjust it. B) Did you store it w/out string tension & C) Heat Press??

thanks for the reply

I adjusted it when i got it back, probably a couple months ago now. It had been "stored" in my cousin's attic . . . strings were still on it and at tension for 10+ years in said attic. it was pretty gnarly when i got it given back to me, all greasy and nasty, strings rusty, neck bowing forward. Still plays and sounds pretty OK after I cleaned it up but the neck relief is concerning.

i don't know what "heat press" means

I do see that you have already removed the bridge pup cover. Was that strictly a choice of convenience or did you find, like mine, you had to in order to raise the pickup high enough to get a useable tone/sound from it?
