Harmony H22 bass

I talked to a local dealer who will be carrying them, and they figure about 3 months until they are in stock and a price around $600- $700. They said list is around $1000- $1100.

There are some differences to be sure. I picke dup an old one recently so I can compare when the new ones come out. I get to hear an old original one at a local blues jam and nothing else touches it for bottom end.

Greg, where is this jam?

I use to go to Dallas, TX quite often for work and my hang out down there was the Hole in the Wall. On Wednesday night Hash Brown hosts a killer jam. His bass player always used an H22. I sat in and used that bass several times. It was the reason I bought mine down in Garland 5-6 years ago.

The jam is in Portland, Oregon. We have quite a nice local blues scene here with lots of talented players.

I was offered mine for £6 or $12 USD when my regiment disbanded.

Played one at a jam close to 20 years ago already and couldn't put it down!

I had a 63 Fender Jazz bass, CAR finish, when I was a kid and sold it in 1975. Who knew it would be worth so much today!!!?!!! Here's a pic of me playing it somewhere around 1964 or so........

Very spiffy attire, indeed! Are y'all wearing Beatle boots...it's hard to tell? I graduated from a Silvertone amp-in-case to a Harmonic (Japanese) Hofner knockoff through a Silvertone 1 X 15" combo about that time. Those were the days...

I'd look to ebay for a real one instead. The new ones aren't accurate repros in obvious areas, Lord only knows about the not so obvious.

Well, that's true, but the originals aren't stopping their price climb anytime soon. Plus, a new one might help avoid some of the gamble involved in buying an older bass.

edit: And ooone mooore thing. This is getting pretty ridiculous. My absolute favorite basses are old brands like Teisco, Supro, Guyatone, Kent, Harmony, etcetera, but I'll admit most of them really are pieces of crap- they just have that "something" that I love. Used to be I could grab some Teisco on Ebay for like eighty bucks. Now it'd probably be four hundred. For a piece of crap! Anyway, carry on...

I think these Jay Tursers usually list around $300, and they're probably about the same build quality. Harmony could make a huge profit seeling the H22s in the 500-600 range. Turser should make H22 copies for 3-350.

I'd buy a Turser H22, and be proud of it. But the one you posted is no good for me. Long scale, dull looks.

I wouldn't want one of those either...gotta be a neckdiver.

I was using it as an example of what prices Asian made stuff can be sold for a profit.

I'd guess the Harmony H22 could be sold for $300 for a profit if the Turser can...it's certainly cheaper in this instance to make a flat top with one pickup than an archtop with two.

It seems like a lot of people overlook that the main appeal of the old Harmonys is the sound, and the sound came from DeArmond pickups. I'd like to hear one of these new H22 pickups...I'm very skeptical. $900 is rape IMO.

I used to have an H-22 and thought it made a great blues bass. I didn't think it was a total piece of crap, but it probably wouldn't withstand the rigors of road for very long. Wonderful sound for blues.
Also had an [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which I liked better.

I agree, $895 is just too much for this particular bass. The MSRP is a joke and the reduction is too. It's not going to sell well and prices will come down. The only problem will be can it last in the market if it will only sell with deep discounts. Time will tell.
