Has any one regretted selling a certain bass?

I traded in a '73 sunburst/maple Jazz for $200 off on my purchase of an older Pbass. I had to kick in $25 to boot, on what turned out to be a '65 sunburst Precision, seller thought it was a '67. This was around 1980 when post CBS Fenders were cheap. I'm sure most would agree it was a good deal, though I regret not coming up with the $200 cash and keeping the Jazz. The P in mine for keeps!

I had a, 8-10-83 stamped on the neck, squier p-bass SQ, sunburst ash body, schaller tuners, MIJ bass....I had sold it after 4 yrs of owning That was THE dumbest thing I ever did!
I seen a Guild with a bass Kahler and thought wow I need that. Duh NOT! (fun but after a year it was just for a song or two.)
I paid $300 for Squier and that thing played, sounded and looked better than a 1/2 dozen Fenders on shelf. Buddy of mine was Fender rep and a dealer and bass was 1st wave of imports for the Reps to sell.
BUT good news was I found the same bass dated 10-10-83 on neck 4months ago and bought it! ($400 was $500 and seller just wanted it gone...thanks seller!)
Anyway that's my story....Hope you like.

The only one that I truly regret was a ( '74?) black Hagstrom Swede. I sold it in Orlando in 1987 and I've wanted another one from the moment that I took my hand off of the case.

Honorable mentions going to a '78 Fender P (sold in Los Angeles in 1991), a '74 Rickenbacker 4001 (sold in Orlando in 1988) and a butt ugly 80s Ibanez Roadstar II (sold in Los Angeles in 1994). The Kay hollow body doesn't count, because it was stolen.

The only one that I can still justify is the 4001.

Yeah, I have no basses that I've had serious regrets selling. I do however rue the day that I traded my '65 Strat (all original except for a brass nut) for a Frankenstrat ('58 neck on a '63 body). Actually not so much the trade as the fact that the Frankenstrat was destroyed by a "luthier" in Hollywood some years after I got it. Bastard...

Original 1954 P with painted peghead that matched the blue body color. Sold it in the early 70s for $375. With case. Arrrrrgh! (I was broke, with first child on the way, so in a sense no regrets... But I sure wish I'd found a different way to get that dough!)

I had a a Fodera Emperor that had the same top as the one Tommy Shannon owns and I traded that for a very early Benavente Vortex custom and ended up having to sell that to move to Taxachussets.

I had a Geddy Lee Wal back in 2001 or so that I bought and sold for 1800, it sat at bassnw for a good 6 months or so...didn't have a scratch on it...

years ago my 2nd bass was a Rick 4003, I think in 1982 or so, I had a custom black pickguard made so it was all black and put an arrow on it like Pete Townshend used to have, it had a duncan and an emg in it as well as a badass bridge and new gold tuners, the routing was brutal but people raved about the tone. I think I sold it somewhere near Chicago for 4 something. Would love to have that one back.

My buddy was moving out of state (early '80s) and offered me his bass, a 1969 Fender Jazz sunburst/rosewood, for $275. Nah... I all ready have a bass, thanks any way.

I see there's a number of us who have regretted selling pre-EB MM's. All those who still own one take heed! Mine was a 78 Stingray, white with a maple board. It was so heavy but oh what a sound.

Same here. I had a mid 70's Pre EB MM Stingray black & maple. I traded it for a Steinberger XP2 which I later traded for a strat copy. . . . yes. A series of bad decisions indeed.

Had a Rob Allen Mouse 30 and regretted it, so I spec'd a new one and still have that one.

Had a ZON Vinny VB4 with a beautiful claro walnut top... sold it, then bought it back then sold it again. So I just rec'd another Vinny VB4 and this one isn't going anywhere.

1976 Fender Precision. About six years ago I was out of work and needed money to buy Christmas presents for my wife and son. I paid $550 for it in 2001 and sold it for $1,200 in 2004.

1997 Alembic 5 String. I didn't sell it but I traded it for a 4 string Alembic because I rarely used the low B string. I now wish I had kept the 5.
