Has anybody here lied and passed a polygraph?

Check this out — 618: Mr. Lie Detector - This American Life — Here's the lead-in,

I'm going to take your mind to a state of enhanced mental imagery. You will clearly remember everything I tell you, and you will do everything that I tell you to do. I want you to imagine being on a beautiful deserted beach.

I want you to picture yourself lying on a beach chair, staring out at the ocean. You're watching the waves gently rolling into the shore. Wave after wave, gently rolling into the shore. And with each wave, you're becoming more and more relaxed, calm, and at peace. You can feel yourself relaxing now. You're watching wave after wave gently rolling into the shore. And you are now totally relaxed, calm, and at peace.

I'm now going to count from one to five. And when I get to the count of five, you will remember to do what you have been trained to do, and you will be awake, alert, and absolutely confident that you will pass your polygraph test. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. …

I pulled off a Top Secret clearance with full disclosure. I didn't have to lie & if I had they would have found out anyway.
If it's that serious they do a background check. If there's anything in your past to link you to drug use, just don't bother, because you will get fired later on during the background check.
The Poly is just the beginning of the background check. If you lie & they can prove it, you're done!

Jobs that require a security clearance do.
This seems like good advice. I have a record but only 2 misdemeanors from over 11 years ago.

Just say 'but I did not inhale.'

Alcoholisim, drug use, high risk behavior...Other than that I'm a really awesome person.
Ah, the usual stuff. I'd still hire you :) I believe in a well rounded upbringing.

Is this for a mailman job? Some of the dudes that I see look like they just got out of the joint yesterday

As KBD said, if they're doing polygraphs they'll certainly do background checks.

I've had to do one, for a security screening in work, and did in fact lie and pass.
Questions about political beliefs, if that matters.
I was actually on some serious painkillers for back injury at the time and was feeling pretty relaxed.
That might be an option?
I like this idea. Didn't they ask you if you were under the influence in the beginning to set the "control" points?

They did, and I told them what I was taking.
There was a bit of a huddle then they decided to go ahead anyway.
Bear in mind this wasn't a government agency doing it, but it was an airline that takes it's security pretty seriously (El Al).
If I had failed all it would have meant was that I wouldn't be working on their flights, so I wasn't all that concerned either way...which obviously kept my anxiety levels down.

Top Secret? Federal Govt?

Not weed. But admitting you did anything else, such as cocaine, Ecstasy, Meth, etc is an automatic disqualification. The last time I did any of those things was over 15 years ago.

You’re better off telling the truth about the facts and the timeframe rather than trying to lie. You will not fool the poly, and you will get caught. You have a chance if you tell the truth....you risk prosecution when you get caught lying.

There are two ways to beat a polygraph. Either find a way to control your galvanic skin response, so all answers are relaxed, or find a way to act agitated and anxious on all questions (even the baseline truthful responses), so all answers show “false positives”.

I do not know the method to accomplish either.
