Has anybody tried Bassurgery?

I got the wind up on another posting on this forum dealing with the £/$ ratio as various commentators seemed to slag it off sight unseen and asked rather disparaging questions viz. 'what's with the funny frets at the top of the fingerboard, can't he set frets properly', etc.
All innovators and folks who try new stuff run the risk of people slagging them off. In this month's Pro Audio mag there's an article dealing with the fact that in the market most folks want the same product only cheaper, rather than groundbreaking products. Though that was dealing with speakers, the general principle applies in a lot of things, including instrument making.
Mind you, you can't please all the bassists all the time!

Would I get one? Yes, If and when I have the dosh. I've already asked Kim whether he would like to build me a double neck bass with fretted and fretless necks, and both 6 strings. No problem he said, and it will work out about 12 lbs in weight! That's when the lottery comes up for me, naturally.
But like I said in my review, after Bassurgery all other basses are an anticlimax. That's not to say that I don't love my cheapo Shine 6 string fretless (cheap but amazing for the price), my Indie 6 string (as good as a Yamaha 6 IMHO), my Yamaha BB5 (old faithful) and my Ricky 4001 fretless (my original and still going strong).
It's whatever floats your boat, and even if I get a 'dream bass' from Kim, I'll still play and keep the others!

After repeated attempts for Link Removed I just get Yahoo search engine pages or remarks the site does not exist. All in all, seems like a worthless pursuit. So I just don't care :spit: and will gas over things real and possibly one day within reach. Again I say :spit: with Plantagenetian vehemency.

Resurrecting this ancient thread... I've never seen a used Bassurgery appear here, on ebay, Reverb, anywhere. Does anyone know just how many non-prototype basses he produced? Does anyone know the end of the Bassurgery story? I'm sure it's safe to assume the cost of these instruments didn't yield enough sales to sustain the business? Or maybe this was more of a hobby for the owner?
