Has anyone ever thrown out a bass?

A few years ago I picked up a $20 garage sale bass, Teisco-esqe. It had a shorter than 30" scale, and do matter what I did, I couldn't get it to play in, and hold tune.

I'm guessing if I threw enough money at it, it might have come around. But the end result just didn't justify that.

I stripped and kept all the hardware and electronics, and tossed the body and neck.

It was for the best................

I mix for a guy who found a yamaha acoustic in the trash - strung it Nasville style and it plays great!!

I'm not that lucky, closest I've seen was finding a stand in the trash - it's the best stand I've seen, been using it live ever since!

I dont think i would ever trash an instrument (my wife always complains I never thow ANYTHING out:smug:). i'd donate it somewhere

I don't think any musician would ever throw out a bass. They might strip it down if it was really "lost" and throw out the worst parts.

But now somebody's MOM is another story! Throwing out a bass is just another version of the throwing out of valuable trading cards, comic books etc. When Moms get "cleaning", look out. Especially if you aren't there to stop her!

I had a squier aff p and I was re painting it. Stupid me not relizing it the night got cold paint didn't dry just looked terrible pissed me of so much. I threw on the ground and than threw it again and again till it was in peices. I hate myself but it was no big deal just a sham on my part. Ya learn and let go I guess

Nope but I recently found a MIA Fender deluxe Strat in the trash. Lake placid blue, black pickups, no pickguard or holes for a pickguard neck was twisted and the upper horn was cracked in half. It also had a rounded neck plate. In the process of a refin. Gonna sell it and get a MIJ or MIA Jazz. :)

I found one all busted to he77 behind the dumpster at work one Monday morning.
Possibly a cheapo Ibanez.
There wasn't enough left to glue back together and the hardware was all fuggled up and rusted.
It didn't look like the pup worked any more, either.

I did get a student size classical guitar that my roommate found at work some years ago which I sold for $20 to a guy who practically begged me to sell it to him.
The thing played terribly. Can't imagine why he wanted to pay money for it.

Yeah did the same, had a cheap yamaha bass that I broke over a tv on stage glued it back together then broke it on the corner of a drum riser at another show and simply threw it to the crowd. I actually had a post on our website saying the kid had it hanging on his wall.

Never tossed out a bass, but TB'er SpinalTapper rescued one once, an Ibanez, which he then gave to me. I pulled out a set of working EMG's, which I then used on a parts project of my own. I wound up putting it back to stock condition (other TB'ers donated some parts, I did the labor and pulled off about 10,000 stickers {fun stuff}).

When completed I put it in an extra gig bag I had and donated it to a local church for their music program. They were happy to receive it, and that sad little Ibanez received a new lease on life. Hopefully some kid is on his way to becoming one of us...
