Threw out a First Act acoustic "guitar". They make horrible stuff. My grandparents got it for me from Wal-Mart because they thought I wanted to learn. I used it for a while, but the neck has no truss rod. So there was tons of fret buzz and I couldn't do a thing about it. That, and it was a tiny little thing, and it sounded horrible, and the intonation was horrible and un-adjustable. It sucked, never buy from there.

Has anyone ever thrown out a bass?

I more or less threw out my first bass, an affinity jazz (got another one later, go figure). It ended up at a friend's house for a bit, and disappeared when he moved. I also donated my epiphone tbird to a friend, but at least that one went somewhere.
about a month ago I found a brand new Jackson JS-20 guitar and a lightly beaten 3/4 scale First Act acoustic by the dumpster. That night I put the acoustic on Craigslist and the next morning an old dude picked it up for 20$ for a friends of his grandson, it was in decent shape though it took me forever to tune it. As for the Jackson I was trying to sell it to go towards a new amp but fell in love with it

now if only I could play it decently, and though it has a tremolo bar I found the only use for it is when I want to practice tuning skills
since it has no locking nut or anything fancy like that....

since it has no locking nut or anything fancy like that....Yea those are the guitars I was talking about. They're terrible, they're really only useful as toys. Trying to play one is futile. It is near impossible to tune, doesn't intonate, and most of them just fall apart if you actually try and tune and play them.
btw I have no idea why someone would just throw it away like that, figured someone was mad at someone....
For all those who have found something by a dumpster, have any of you tried to find the original owner? I know that I feel sorta guilty about not doing so, but I don't want to lose it...
and that if it was an angry girlfriend or something, it has a better home with me... (I just keep telling myself this)

Never thrown one away. I have given two basses away to youngsters starting out.
I also gave an old telecaster and practice amp to my nephew starting him off on his way to becoming a brilliant guitarist. Every time I hear him play (he's since added a nice Les Paul) it pays me back in happiness.

Never threw one out, though I my SX does tempt me. I had a pretty negative experience with both it and with Rondo, so when I either decide to completely give up on fretless or to really commit to it and buy a decently made bass, I'll have a decision to make. As tempted as I'd be to simply smash it and throw out the pieces, I hope I'd be able to recoup at least some of my costs (bass plus the money I put into it trying to make it serviceable) by parting out the pieces that could at least be put to use.

If only I could be that lucky. The local high school had a double bass that was slightly broken (neck disconnecting from body) that I wished I could have bought off them.
Yes, I had a Chinese-made P-bass copy. It was made from plywood, like you'd get from Lowe's. Worse, it took three days before folks in the dorm realized the glue/epoxy from control cavity was sending fumes into the duct work and making us sick. Yanked my pickups and tossed that sucker!
I throw a Acoustic, I ristroy it totally and since I lost my interrest for play guitar, but later I turn to bass, but I know now that I don't have any way out to quit it

The thing was some no name P.O.S. that didn't hold intonation, tune, sounded like crap, etc etc. It was called the "I Know" bass because it was used to record one song with that title. When I somehow finally obtained ownership of it, I put it out of its misery and tossed it in the fire pit and torched it.

I owned one of these back in the late '60s. I cannot for the life of me remember what happened to it. I don't remember selling it or giving it away, so it may in fact have ended up in the dumpster, which, to be perfectly honest, is where it belonged:

My friend's dad once found a forest green Yamaha BB series bass in a dumpster.
I have no idea why anyone would have thrown it out. It's a great instrument.
