Has anyone just bought a Parker Fly 5 string?

I played one in shop in Australia a few years ago through a Trace Elliot rig and it sounded gorgeous. I decided there and then that I wanted one.

I found out too that Parker are offering the 5 string in a transparent blue now. I mentioned this to my wife but she said she prefers the red, and as she's actually paying for it, if choosing the colour keeps her sweet well I still get a nice new Fly 5 string.....

I have an inside line that Tom Hamilton just ordered 5 ( ) for the upcoming Aerosmith tour.
So there should be a bit of a "push" coming on them soon.

BTW, he bought and paid for them. Literally picked up the phone and said "how much for 5??" He was given a price and then he said "Cool!!" told them something like here is my credit card and when he gave his name it was like "Wait, THE Tom Hamilton?!?!?".

Cool huh?!?!

And I have a weird attraction to them. I really want one tuned E to C.

Cool story. I owned on for a short while. Interesting basses... very lightweight. I couldn't get past the very tight string spacing at the bridge... tighter than any other bass I'v ever played. I thought I could get used to it... I couldn't! Very high quality instrument, though. When I purchased one of the early production models they were using Dimarzio Super J's (or whatever those things are called), and I found them quite thin sounding without 'help' from the piezo... probably due to the very light body and graphite neck.

I could really see that bass as an E to C solo instrument.... though...

Heck, even a 4 tuned A to C (or higher!!)

I like a tight string spacing - I like to run around the fret board. I love the body shape and I've been a jet engine technician for 22 years, so I'm looking forward to lifting something LIGHT!!

And....

It's paid for and being built as we speak!

The tight string spacing is great for my particular classical guitar fingerstyle approach. The blue finish is very cool, I wish they'd offer a dark green burst. Or better yet, how about the new "Tangerine Belew" finish?

;)

Enjoy your new purchase!! Definitely experiment with different strings gauges/brands until you find what works best for YOUR sound!

I use medium gauge Elixirs, so I think I'll stick with them. I like the sound and the feel of them and can't imagine them to sound any worse on a Parker.

I did, placed the order 5 minutes ago!! Transparent red, 5 string Parker Fly:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Hot DAMN!

Cool as a cool thing, it finally arrived 2 days ago!!!

44 1/2 weeks from ordering it to playing it...

Thanks guys and I AM enjoying the new bass. I'm not really a big fan of natural or transparent wood finishes but the finish on the Parker is stunning and doesn't really look like wood at all - more like some sort of 3d paint effect...
