Has anyone seen/tried these j pups? Thoughts?

the material of the flatwork won't make any difference as long as it's magnetically and electrically invisible; it's just down to the quality and wind of the coil and magnets, same as any other J pickup.
I looked at their pickups. The tops are really thick...like 1/8" thick. That would move the coils further away from the strings. I'm not sure I like that.

I would have to hear and play the bass with these pickups installed before i could make a definitive decision but I , like Steve Dallman am a bit sceptical
Good info, thanks! At that price it may be worth trying just to see how they sound. I sent them some questions about options like different wire used and over wound. I am just guessing but if the thickness of the top flat work is thick, you could move it a little closer to the strings to help compensate?
no, because you'd then be moving the magnets closer too.
??? If the top was 1/16" instead of 1/8", wouldn't that effectively move the magnet closer to the strings anyway? I don't understand why that would be a reason not to move a pickup.
i was assuming the magnets are still sticking as far out over the plate as they would with a thinner plate; if not, if the magnets were closer to being flush with the top plate, even to the point that they didn't end up flush with the holes in the cover, then you could bring the coil up closer to the strings without the magnets getting too close.
what matters here is the top of the magnet vs the top of the coil itself, changing that might change the sound.
Magnetic pickups work because of the disruption of the magnetic field lines by the string moving thru them. Closer to the poles, the denser the lines.
All that matters is that the disrupted field lines go thru the coil on the way to the other end of the poles so they can generate voltage (or current, depending on design).

Though I considered trying these pickups (J/J and P/J) in recent weeks, I never got around to it.
If you would be kind enough to try them and post a review here, I will appreciate it.
I don't see what's to be skeptical about. the specs list sounds pretty darn safe.
The key tweaks being a bit overwound----yet the thicker covers keep things slightly further away. That should give a little twist to the tone.
The copper look is cool, with certain finishes.

More than a year after the last comment here but i thought upgrade one of my basses so I thought about Dimarzio Ultra Jazz but I crossed those "Epic custom shop pickups" on ebay.
Searching for reviews I came up with nothing except this talk.
Is there anyone how used those and write a little review on those?
I have a nice discount at the local store so the Dimarzio wont cost much more.

I bought a P/J set. I'm extremely pleased. The P solo'd is powerful with great bottom and clarity. The J solo'd has a lot of body. Would probably drive the music on it's own. Both pickups combined give a nice modern tone. The P pickup cover supplied would not fit in the pickguard without modification. I used the stock covers instead.
To be honest, I really don't trust a business with a website that looks like it was designed 20 years ago.
I like it, simple and easy to navigate. I'm more suspicious of companies that spend more time on their websites than they do on their products and customer service.
I lot of small production companies(like mom & pop shops) have similar websites. Doesn't stop them from making great products.
