Has anyone tried the new Squier Afinity Active Jazz Bass?

The one I tried (and bought for a friend) sounded fantastic. I tried out several Squiers and Fenders (including some Pro IIs) and the Affinity Active was the best sounding of the bunch. One of the things I look for in a bass is note consistency across the fretboard and from string to string. The Active was amazingly consistent, while none of the others I tried were. The sound was punchy and clear (outstanding note definition). I played the bass during a sound check with my corporate events band and it sounded just as good in a dense mix as it did soloed. Our FOH guy (who is also a bassist) was extremely impressed. If I find a five that sounds as good as the four I picked up for my friend I won’t hesitate to buy it. But that’s the thing: wood being what it is the next Active I try might not sound nearly as good to me. But at least I know the Active can sound fantastic, so it will be worth trying to find another good one.

How was the playability and the weight?
Playability was really good. Action was nice and low. It hadn’t been in the shop for very long when I bought it. I put it away for over two weeks and when I took it back out it had held its tuning just as well as any of my other basses. It was heavier than what I would have preferred. Difficult to say how much it weighed: probably between 9.5 and 9.8 lbs but that’s just a guess.

I took home the one I tried. Fairly lightweight and not too shabby finish (needed a bit of love, but just a bit) sounds wicked

Just got the Thomann exclusive pink version of this bass. Lovely color, good weight and balance. Awfully sharp frets, I'll need to take it to a tech, or maybe switch it to a left hand Fender neck I have around here. Does anyone know if the pickup covers are removable?
