Has Gretsch been lying to us for over a decade?

I looked before speaking more, and did find that the wire I thought was bare actually had insulation, so I was wrong on that. However I still think that in order to have two separate magnetic fields to provide humcaneling effect you would need more than just the insulated wire to provide two coils.

Of course this is all silly, since there is only two wires, and a second coil would need connections somewhere right? otherwise it's not really a coil and more like ungrounded shielding.

Wow, how toxic is that forum? That's a lot of ad hominem. Those people are quite disconnected with internet culture and never understood you were mostly just having fun with it and you weren't actually that serious about it.

I know folks joke about TB culture and such, but yeah that Gretsch forum is next level gross.

That we do. And I love that we can all discuss something like this in a rational matter, without descending into disrespectful territory toward Lobster or anyone who disagrees with him. I'm very interested in knowing how this plays out- as I mentioned upstream I have my theories about how it's going to go from a corporate perspective, but we shall see.

One of the issues that comes up is the silence of F/G on this - they aren't responding to questions or returning calls. That signals to me that they're getting the legal departmet involved, and the legal types will tell you not to say anything until they've had a chance to find out what's really going on (you can read that as "gather facts and figure out the best spin") so I think it's going to be a week or two before we get any sort of input from them.

I would say not yet. If it's sitting with legal, no one's going to respond until they sort out what's going on. But on the other hand it's possible that the more noise we make, the higher priority this becomes.

I would like to point out a similar issue with a higher end bass. The PRS Kingfisher SE advertises humbucker pickups. You even see the giant poles on both rows, but they are just single coil pickups with low output and tons of noise. And this is a nice bass: through body neck, 24 frets, bird inlays.

And people have paid nearly a $1000 only to find this out later.

This is step 1. Step 2 will be talking Sire into making a short scale HH bass.
