Nobody cares. I have fenders, Ibanez, Yamaha, Jackson, plus several others. Once I got a new bass and nobody in the band noticed for two weeks. Make yourself happy, thats whats important.

I played a Midnight Wine jazz, then a Sunburst Jazz (with a pretty dark sunburst), for about 4 years. Then I got a Fiesta Red Jazz, which I thought stood out and was a noticibly different color. I played the new Fiesta Red bass exclusively, several times per week, with the same people.

It was a almost a year before people stopped asking "When did you get a red bass?"

I think we all have funny stores about nobody noticing when you change stuff as a bass player haha. Kind of funny when you think of it considering the time and effort that we put into it. I do not notice if a guitar player uses a tubescreamer or something else on his lead sound but I’m betting he has 10 different overdrives that are slightly different and obsesses over them. And what about drummels!

A FEW producers over the years expressed preference for a certain bass.

The one thing I agree with is that some of these other basses have too much tonal variety with active circuits. A passive P or j of any brand is just easier (IMO) to plug, play and get great tone.

I get the sentiment recorded here, but is that the bass’s fault? I would find some responsibility for good tone on the bassist and engineer.
