First my main bass is an Ibanez sr 1300 which is sounding so good .There were times I went to try out some fenders in shop and got disappointed because non of the basses sound good to me.
I prefer modern basses with low weight and good ergonomic.Something I did not feel it with fender at all .
In 5 string fender is a big no for me .Kind of unplayable and chubby neck.
In my country most good bassist main bass is not fender .
Yamaha TRB has fan and boutique basses .
It's funny because fender has super powerful marketing here but still didn't change mind of the big names .
Armen basses

Years later, I gave them another chance and realized what absolutely awesome basses Yamaha makes. Enough so that I purchased a TRBX604 and it's one of my favorite players I've ever owned. I also avoided Fenders for a while.
Prejudice is SO stupid! I like to think I've learned a few things since then and I don't ever want to fall into that kind of narrow-minded thinking again. A good bass is a good bass... PERIOD.
