Have we all been tricked!?

i've got lollar p, j and fire birds fitted in 3 of my basses. they all sound fantastic, but the Ps are the cream of the crop. they'll make any bass sing.

with regards to wood types and fretboard materials, i think the choices are just as much to do with playability as they are tone.

if i were to choose fretboard, i would go with ebony because it feels great to play on.

for body, i'd choose something like ash because of its lighter weight.

i've not tried 'roasted' so haven't bought into its tonal qualities, but i suspect that any upgrades in tone are more subtle than pickup and string choices.

No difference between bass and guitar, they're all guitars with pickups and strings.
I guess what you mean is pickups are important but pickup manufacturers overplay their importance to sell more units?

Whenever I hear the story of Les Paul using a 2x4, I think "was it a pine 2x4, or a mahogany 2x4, or a maple 2x4….."
