Have you ever abused prescrption meds?

Im curious to see if any TBers have abused or are abusing prescription medications.

I am 24 and clean but when I was 17 I had a pretty bad knee injury. There after I developed a problem with Vicodin, Percocet, and Demerol. I also had a problem with Xanax. I didnt get clean until four years ago.

I didnt have intentions of misusing them, and only took them for pain at first (and the Xanax for sleeping because of the pain), but wound up fighting pretty tough battles with them.

What say you, abusing meds?

i took xanax for many years, until i realized that klonapin works better for me. i'm not at all abusing it, but i do know that my body is somewhat dependent. but my body is also dependent on the three other psych meds i take. it's too bad my body don't make the chemicals i need to function on their own.:hmm:

i have been know, in the past, to eat a pain killer or two for fun.

I have two relatives who were addicted to prescription painkillers and one of my friends was. I also worked in a nursing home and saw a lot of people who were zoned out on pain killers all the time.

I don't like medication of any kind and I certainly don't want to risk becoming addicted to them, so I stay away from them (even things like Tylenol or cold and allergy medicine).

When I broke my leg and had a 6" steel plate installed I took one of the T3's they gave me and I hated the way it zombied me out so I refused to take any more. I just took an aspirin every 8 hours for a couple of days and it was fine.

I mentioned to this guy I worked with that my wife took Tegretol and Neurontin for epilepsy and he kept asking to buy them from me. Seriously, this nincompoop bothered me for weeks trying to get me to swipe some of them from my wife and sell them to him even after I made it VERY clear that there was no way in hell I would do it. That's pretty desperate for a buzz if you want to eat a bunch of Tegretol and Neurontin. Probably safer drinking radiator fluid.

Ive never taken any painkillers stronger than tylenol, but I have in the past taken up to quadruple doeses of my Ritalin to kill time, and have tripped a few times on a sleeping pill called Sonata. I was given them by a relative who is a RN, the first time I thought I might have just taken too many, the second time I realized it might just be the pills..

I'm not sure what the definition of "abuse" is, but I've taken vicodin 2-3 times before going out to the bar (3 yrs ago). Also took some left over vicodins that I had from my wisdom teeth when my back and legs were extremely sore from lifting.

I, too am dependendant on a few psych meds to keep me right, and it does suck to need pills to feel normal. Now I have never abused these meds (they can't really give you a buzz anyway, they're not benzos or pain pills), but my body and mind rely on them to be mentally even-keel.

Smokin' a bowl would help in a similar manner (and might help you get in some more post-workout carbs) you know :o.

Nay nay. I've had a few people offer, I'm good. I was on morphine for 3 days when I got my tonsils out, other than that I've only ever tried cannabis and psilocybin. Cannabis was a regular thing, psilocybin only twice. The idea of taking anything that's known to be easily physically and psychologically addicting especially in pill form scares the bejeezus out of me.
