I use an American Precision which I LOVE playing, but it's just not... perfect. I'll admit, though, the sound is amazing.
I thought for a while that I liked Jazz Basses, I love the way they sit either on your leg or the way their balanced when you strap it up. But it didn't have the "perfect" sound.
Right now, I really like the way Rickenbacker basses feel and sound, plus they look cool. That, a Lakland, or a Music Man would suit me as the best right now.
As far as guitars go, I picked up a Gretsch Duo Jet in the store, and am saving up for one now. The look, feel, balance, and sound are all just amazing.

I have quite a few basses now, and I still have not found one that feels Perfect
But I would say the closest is my Aria IGB series, it was my first bass, and still plays the best of any of my basses.

Most of the basses I own were at one time "the one". My most recent "the one" is my Lakland 55-02.
Five times so far. Any time I play one of them, it's my favorite bass. Until I play one of the other 4.
The one that I'm building is *THE* one. And I've very glad it is. No pictures yet, but I just got done playing it for the past few hours.

:I've been in bass heaven since I started using Lakland. I now own 5 of them and have no desire to look elsewhere. I know that there are other quality brands(not fender) but Lakland fills my bass needs and desires. The 55-02 is a total package if you are referring to one bass.
I have two.If I had to pick my favorite...

! I like both of those colourschemes a lot, so I couldn't decide on a favourite either .I've had this bass since almost new and I haven't found a nicer sounding, easier playing bass yet. It has a short neck which relates to quicker runs with less finger stretching, is semi acoustic, very light and pleasing to the eye. I haven't any pictures yet but as soon as I get a digital camera I'll post some. It's a shame someone doesn't still make a bass of this calibre. I'd buy a spare.
