Right now this MM5 is doing it for me, but I still have a few more tweeking to do. The only small regret is that it's a little on the heavy side, but it feels and plays so well that it really dosen't matter

60th anniversary ash P bass deluxe + U retro preamp + D'addario Chromes= most awesome bass ever! (For me anyway). Funny I got this bass on trade and was pretty sure I was gonna bounce it for something else, but since I did the U retro install, I cant put the thing down! Is it that bass yet? I don't know yet, it is for the moment. but then again I have yet to try a Ric and I have horrible GAS for one.
I'm not a huge fender guy by any means but I really like that bass. I've always liked the P config with the double J in the bridge.

Are they custom made? I have never seen too basses that look so well together.
No, they're stock. They were also purchased a year apart. The one on the right is a fretless.
Not yet. I've owned some great basses, and currently own a killer Jazz clone, but I don't think I've found 'THAT bass'.

I've got two bass guitars that I really like, for different reasons.
The first one, built by Finnish TB:er MPU, is my first choice for my present gig:

Yes they do! This is my third one. I haven't played anything better. I really like the Custom you have. I haven't had the opportunity to try one of those yet, but I will..
Yep, I believe I have (at least for now) with my Steinberger XQ basses. For me, they really have it together - love the way they sound, feel, and yes, even look. Good combination of low-end fullness and top-end articulation and a very consistent, even sound all over the neck.
I do have my moments where I miss that "retro mojo" and woodiness of the Fenders I used to own...but every time I record a new bass track and hear how great the Steinbergers sit in the mix and bring out the detail in my parts, I remind myself that if I sold or traded the Steinies, I'd end up regretting it. I guess maybe that's a sign that you've found THAT bass...when you can say to yourself, "I'd be an idiot to get rid of this," LOL.

Currently..... EBMM Bongo 5 for metal and a Fender MIA Jazz V 5er for top 40/funk.
My Lakland sounds better than my Fender, but the Fender is new and we are still on our honeymoon. I'm sure I will be back to the Lakland one of these days though. That is unless there is something else I fall in love with in the meantime.
BTW, is there therapy or rehab available for bass related GAS?
In high school when I first wanted to learn to play, a guitarist friend of mine hooked me up (for free) with one his former bassist left him. It's an old eighties-era Hondo (I think Hondo II) P-bass, which the original owner made fretless by ripping the fretwire out. Further more, when I got it, two of the tuneing keys were snapped off, the pot knobs were missing, the thing was dirty and beat to hell, and shortly after I got it the wiring **** the bed. Soooo, with no job and no money, I used a leatherman to tune the strings with no keys, attempted twice to rewire the pickups (never did get that to work) and rewired an old tube-amp classroom record player to plug in as a practice amp, lol. The wires I used to hook up the input jack were way too small, and just plain burned out every time I plugged in. Oh well.
Anyway, after 2 and a half years in the army, and coming home from Iraq, I swore I would get my bass playable. After being told I could replace it for around 75 bucks, I spent around a hundred and fifty bucks to have the pickups rewired, new pots and tuners put in, the neck leveled, the old varnish sanded off (after sitting in a storage shed for close to five years, the neck finish was in bad shape, but it made it easy to get it redone) and the fret slots filled with a slightly darker veneer, which looks pretty good with the blond fretboard. *Edit: Also had the plastic nut replaced, and some other stuff I think, can't remember, will when I see it again* The body is heavy, weighs the same as an Abrams tank, and is finished in some kind of dark sunburst, maybe tobbaco burst? Anyway, all cleaned up, it looks ok, still not great, the pickguard had been replaced when I got it with a black metal one, it's all beat to hell, but you can set it on a stand, pluck a note, walk away, and ten minutes later it's still resonating when you get back. I love the sustain and tone.
Is it my perfect bass? No. I love Deans, I like Rics, and I have seen many very beatiful basses in this thread alone I would like to check out. But I doubt I will ever find a bass that will hold my heart like this one. Still have to put Black hardware on it instead of the chrome, and I want straplocks, but overall, this thing is my baby.
Sorry no pictures yet, just moved to california, I get the bass and the rest of my stuff back tommarrow when the movers show up, will try to get a webcam to take some pictures.

This is it for me.This is my third Millenium 5 and it works for me like no other I've tried in the thirty seven years I've been playing.I got away from them for a while to try other basses but I realized I was fooling myself.Another bass may come along and change my mind but I won't sell this one to get it.
There's been flavours of the week if you will, but I always seem to come right back to my G&L l-1000, and it's not even that great, it's getting beat up and showing definate signs of wear, kinda ugly mahogany, wide string spacing however suprisingly very comfortably, oh! and the best passive tone ever.
I also like to pretend Leo started making when I was born June 27th, and finished it sometime around neck july 9th body july 17th, something like that anyway. let's pretend that's what he had intended
