I just got an Svt-Cl this afternoon from my new best friend, the UPS driver. I've been running an svt 3-pro for the last 10+ years and thought it was time to kick it up a notch. This is the sound that I've been searching for: SVT-Cl + SVT 610hlf. Anyone out there have that same experience - finding the sound that's been in your head?-hopefully... ((Totally off topic, however nobody else but a musician would have appreciate finding THAT SOUND... sorry; just the mindless ramblings of an idiot...))

I have a CL as well and its a keeper. Cabs will come and go but that head will stay. I have both the 810 and a 410HLF, either one does this head justice. I didn't get the Heritage just a plain old CL ( 2 yr. old) . With so much new stuff coming out all the time I can't keep up . For me the gain at 8 and the master vol at 3 is enough for me to get a good grind out of it. I'm done, good luck with your CL......
I would say I'm pretty darn content with my sound now. Since I have started playing, the sound in my head has changed and that's when my money starts to disappear. Most recently it was some experimentation with strings so not too bad. Anyway, congrats on the SVT!
I've never had trouble finding it, regardless of which bass, head and cab I'm playing.
1) Pick up bass
2) Turn on amp
3) Tweak controls until you hear something you like
4) That's your sound for today
All the rest is just unnecessary agonizing over things you don't have. You don't need to have ONE sound, you can have a different sound every day - whatever pleases you with the gear you're using. Whatever you play, you will sound like you.
Besides, much of the sound is (ALL together now) in the fingers.

Yeah, I found my sound....the Heritage CL with the gain cranked, through a Heritage 810...pure heaven!! 
I agree with Duckwater. Recently I got a TAFM from a fellow TBer and tonight I got it dialed in right. I'm in a hard rock/alternative cover band and it's a 3 piece so having the right pedals for the right parts is important to me. Got it going on right now.
AM ST. Fender Precision 4 & 5 string basses through a Hartke LH1000 and 2-2 x 10 LDS Cabs.
Raw Precision tone. I am very happy but, I did not know what that 'tone' was when I started getting bass gear. I got lucky that I swerved into a sound that fits in with most situations.
With the exception of switching out an underpowered Hartke HA 4000, I (fortunately) haven't gone through any other gear to get here.

I had my sound with an SVT-CL. Then, I found even more of my sound in an Aguilar DB750. After sitting nearly unused for over a year, I sold the SVT-CL without regret.
No. But after ten years I feel I'm getting close........to being close.

+1 on this...have pretty much dialed in "my" sound but often have to tweak it to suit the venue.
Don't know if I can say I found it, but the closest I ever came was back when I played a Precision, an Ampeg cab with two 15's, 100W Yamaha solid-state head, no effects, volume and tone at 10 on the bass, volume at 4 on the amp, highs and mids on the amp both halfway with bass at 3 quarters. I never varied from this - it just seemed to work for me. I could hear every note I played, and the few times we recorded our performances I could still hear every note.
