I cant recomend him more, hes been my go to guy for almost 10 years now. Every bass ive played in his shop has been perfect.
I.M.H.O. Michael Dolan is by far the best luthier I've ever had the pleasure to know, and worked with. Believe me my friends, I’ve worked with other so called, and none can measure up to Michael’s expedience. When I first met Michael, the first thing that impressed me was his ability to listen, before making suggestions. His attention to detail, and craftsmanship is impeccable, plus he’s always willing to take on new challenges, even repairing mistakes made by former so called luthier (who’s names will not be mentioned on this forum.)
Though semi-retired, Michael still takes on projects for me, and we are presently working on a new bass prototype, based loosely on a 56 Danelectro U2 guitar (F…ed up by another luthier), which Michael is presently restoring for me. Michael got so excited about this 56 DanO restoration; he decided to build what we are calling the DanO-51 Precision bass guitar. I have photos of the prototype, but I can’t post them without Michael’s A-OK, but will if he says yes. In Michael’s own words on an E-mail to me dated 08/27/2017; “Moving this project ahead for the heck of it. Neck carved - all ready for final sanding. I love this thing!” need I say more.
In short, regardless if it’s a guitar, or a bass guitar that Michael’s built or restored for me, they all have several things in common; craftsmanship, and silky smooth performance.

the projects i've given him were pretty straightforward but he always took them to another level and was always accommodating with updates and pix.
i have three more builds coming down the pike but i'm afraid michael might keel over if i send them out to him!

16 years later, Michael has built me 4 basses and I could not recommend enough such a fine artist and human being. Michael is the real deal and swell guy as well. These are the instruments he's built for me:
Michael Dolan built a neck for one of my basses 10 or 15 years ago. I no longer own that instrument, but the workmanship was excellent, and he was a pleasure to do business with.
