Have you played a Michael Dolan instrument

I'd like to see more pictures of his basses too. I used to buy strings through him when he ran "Big Bottom Bass Strings" many years ago. He's a really cool guy. He quoted me a price on a 'dream bass' a couple of years ago that was very reasonable. I never went through with the project, but I hope to in the future.

Heres his gallery from his website of some instruments he has built http://www.dolanguitars.com/gallery.htm

My, you have more questions than my son! :help:

Seriously, I do have another 32" P project in the works, and I've just put a deposit on a used 30" P of Michael's, bringing my Dolan total up to 3, soon to be 4. I don't know how much more of an endorsement I can make, since I'm hardly rich and can't really afford it.

yeah, i've been in his shop, i'm friends with one of his apprentices (he does some of the inlay work). Some great looking work. His shop is only about a mile away from mine, so if you ever want me to go snooping around to see if i can get a picture of your bass or not, just PM me.

Cool, when things start rolling i will get in touch. Thanks You. :)

I'm glad you revived this thread- Michael is currently making a custom neck for my P-bass. The bass body is a MIA Fender P; the neck will be maple with graphite stringers and an ebony fretless board, with a black headstock to match the body. Michael has been super nice to work with so far.

Michael has a bass of mine right now, it's an ebay geddy lee complete body with a new warmoth fretless neck with a hgthor epoxy coating. The body was kind of beat and I couldn't get the setup just right so I sent it all to him and he's refinishing it vintage white w/matching headstock and doing a shield/setup.

He also did my 'modulowksy' a few months ago. I had a modulus Q5 that I used for literally thousands of gigs since I bought it new in 92, so it was pretty cosmetically beat. He did a refin, dress, setup, ramp, and routed/installed sadowsky soaps (it already had a sadowsky onboard pre). This thing is amazing now, I've been on a trading/buying spree for the last few years but lately I'm using this for most of my gigs again. Anyway, I think he does great work and can't wait to get my fretless back.

Glad to find this thread. I just wrote to Dolan to ask about having a 31" scale neck made for my Ibanez "Garage-Star" ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]). Hope to hear back, I dig the bass but would like to bring it to where it's really finally "my bass". This'd do it, I think. Okay maybe a Darkstar p'up, but let's take it easy!...

Go ahead with Dolan, he's solid. That neck I mentioned a few posts above and a few years ago, turned out beautiful, excellent quality, and very reasonably priced. Right now he has another bass of mine in for some modifications and a refin, and I have absolute confidence he will deliver professional and excellent results.

Another triple-A rating for Michael.

Although I've never had him build a bass for me, he's done quite a bit of work for me over the past couple years. I wouldn't hesitate to use him, everything he's touched came back much better than when it left me. He did a couple wood touch-ups for free that were so good I hadn't realized they had been repaired until much, much later.

Great guy to work with. If I ever had a clue what I really wanted in a custom, he'd be the guy who would build it. Friendly and helpful to boot!
