Double Bass Having pieces "in your arsenal"

I like experimenting--it may not always work, but when it does--it's fantastic--It's music--so why can't we try certain pieces on other instruments or arranged in different styles?
My father used to tell me you could try anything at least once except standing in front of a bus. :) We can all try whatever we like but we do judge music as good or bad, successful or not. My comments are offered from that perspective - certain kinds of music, music that's written idiomatically for a certain instrument or combination of instruments, will not be nearly as successful on other instruments.
