I wasn't directing that comment at anyone in this thread. It was a bad call and everyone was mad. I know I was!

However, it's nice to see the players and most of the fans handle this with class. I think Detroit fans are the best in the country.

Yes, definitely better than Cleveland fans, at least from my experiences.

Thats kind of the point of officials... To enforce the rules of the game. Be kind of hard to do that without influencing it just a little.

I don't like the call, but there shouldn't be a rule change mid season just because of one call. If they are going to add instant replay then it needs to be during the offseason where all of the owners get their say.

Personally baseball is one of the few sports that I don't like instant replay for. There's really nowhere you can draw the line, and it takes the human element out of the game. Just like the cameras that some teams have now that do the scouting for them. They compile the stats, assign ratings to players.

That alone is ridiculous enough for me.

Yes it was a terrible call, and yes Selig should change it, but one bad call isn't enough to cause all this fuss, I mean DEATH-THREATS? Some people just take things a little to seriously.

I consider myself a "traditionalist" (purist, old-fogey whatever) and I fully agree with what you're saying here... My comment on the influence wasn't well communicated....

In this case the Ump screwed up, admitted it, Bud had the opportunity to right a wrong that everyone agreed was wrong and didn't. I think that says a lot about the commish, who has, on many occasions throw tradition to the wind, yet he upholds it here???

I was thinking of Country Joe West, Angel Herrera and a few others that consistently do things their way... regardless, like giving the rookies one strike zone, and the vets another, and some of the other inconsistencies you see that sway the games, not mistakes cause everyone makes them, but more of an oversight that corrects and disciplines the umps.... They say it's done, then they ought to publicize it so fans know something is being done....

Anyway, just my vent.. Bud should have reversed the call and didn't, but the ump and pitcher handled it great...

Nowadays, we're putting so many asterisks in the record books, why not change the call after the fact, and add this into the book with an asterisk as well?

If this doesn't bring on replay in baseball, I'm not sure what would. Even if they had an "official review" a la the last 2:00 per half in the NFL, It would be great for the sport, IMO.
