Ok so the situation is, i have a hartke LH500 (500 Wats at 8 ohms) im considering selling the hartke and buying a Peavey T-Max. The cab that i run is a 1000 Wat at 4 ohm behringer 4x10.

Questions:
Will the T-max power it well?
Will the T-max have a better sound than the Hartke?
Is it worth it?

If I were You, I would try the Tmaxx out with Your cab and see how it fairs. If You like it do it, if not its no big loss.
It seems like the Tmaxx has a couple of extra bells and whistles, that the LH500 doesn't have. However You wouldn't be gaining anything extra in the watts department with the Tmaxx versus the LH 500.
(IMO) I would stay with the LH 500, because I like the fact that they dont have all the extra knobs and buttons (keeping it simple). The LH series of amps have that blank canvas appeal, where You can throw what ever effects You want if front of'em to get a desired tone. Whereas the Tmaxx that has all those goodies built in giving it the, is what it is feel.

If I'm reading the manual correctly, you will only get 350W out of the Peavey at 4 ohms, whereas you will get 500W out of the Hartke at 4 ohms. Then again, that Behringer cab probably can't handle anywhere near the 1000W it claims.

I'd stick with the Hartke. The tone stack is pretty cool on those, though a bit counterintuitive.

Both amps have SS power sections which will put out less power at higher impedances unlike tube power sections which tend to put out the same power regardless of impedance. The tube in the Hartke is in the preamp and will not affect power output. Loudness is a whole separate issue.

hartke lh500 is a super head. t-max is too but you've already got a good head so that's not your problem. your problem is that behringer cab. get rid of it and get a good cab. a cheap bass and cheap head will sound great going through a good cab. a great bass and a great head going through a cheap cab will sound like crap.

I have owned both of those heads, and they are both great, and both will easily kill that behringer cab...lol...if you want them to. You can't go wrong with either, but the LH500 has more power at 4 ohms, ... but the Tmax will do a 2 ohm load @ 500 watts, and has graphic EQ, and has a decent overdrive with its tube pre, whereas the LH500 will not provide any grit with its tube pre, and you can combine the tube and solid state preamps with the Tmax....which is why I sold my LH, and still have the Tmax.
Incidentally, $350 is a bit much for that Tmax, unless you just REALLY want it....or maybe I need to go UP on the price of my Tmax, which I have had for sale.

I agree with the other guys here that a good cab goes a long way. I can't speak for the behringer or the Kustom cabs from my own experience, but the talk I have heard about their stuff around the camp fires here wasn't very good. Seems to me the asking prices on the used stuff You are looking at are a bit high. I am sure that there are some great deals on some used cabs in Your area. I see used Ampeg 410's going for around the $350-$400 range in my area. I actually sold an 810 for $450 a few months back. Just keep Your eyes peeled and a good one will come up.
