Headless bridge sources

Progress report:
I should be able to make use of ABM individual tuner-bridges. The catch is that three different lengths have been produced and I need to find a 97mm part, no longer in production. If I find the right part no routing will be required and remaining voids in the route will be in-line with strings and fairly easy to fill with dark wood. It will probably look classier than stock! :)

While I'm contemplating the bridge I can't help thinking about the headpice as well. A non-cast part would be nice. It seems It would help to prepare the wood to conform to right angles. Not sure I'd go about this, woodwork is not my area of expertise. Eyeballing it with a try square and rasp?
Any suggestions?

The older revision ABM part is nowhere to be found. On the upside the ETS parts can be made to any string spacing without surcharge! Id still have some gaps to fill out. Considering ebony or similar dark wood for those gaps. Any suggestion on how to handle the rounded edges?

Are there plans available somewhere for making a headless bass? Am I correct in assuming that you need to purchase such hardware first, and then design around it. Does such hardware usually come with some kind of schematic or template?

Thanks, I'm considering the option of making my first build a headless bass.

Do you need to fill up that gap?

You may want to take a look at the Dave Bunker and David King offerings for headpieces.

Have you checked out B.G. Stainless? I recently purchased a Headpiece from them and they also have the bridge claws for several of the different Steinberger bridge versions available. Here is a picture from their main page.

Here is the link to their web site: BGStainless, - Quality Stainless Steel Replacement Parts

What brand is your bass? I have a Hohner Jack Bass that I got a replacement bridge with the DB detuner off of ebay. Headless USA also has replacement bridges, but you have to contact them for availability.

Here is the link to Headless USA: STEINBERGER - HeadlessUSA Guitar & Bass - Welcome to the official HeadlessUSA website!

I hope this info may help you.
Cheers,
Mike

Oops, actually I purchased my headpiece from Headless USA. The stainless has a slightly different tone than the stock Aluminum Steinberger headpiece. It actually improves the tone IMHO. The stainless large bridge claws will fit the bridges for Hohner, Spirit, Cort etc. I am going to buy a set of their Vintage bridge claws for my original Steinberger bridge to replace the aluminum ones it has at present.
Peace,
Mike
