Not sure if this is the right thread to post about this but here it goes: I recently scrolled through eBay in search of any newly listed Steinberger basses and came across this Blue Steinberger Synapse. Originally the seller had posted a picture of the truss rod before taking it down after questioning its condition, it looks to be damaged where the truss rod of the synapse was located and tells me "that's how these basses are" ????

Oooh, Headless Anonymous!
Can't remember when I picked up my Hohner Jack (exactly like TanglefooT1959's, pictured in Post #484) but it's certainly been over 20 years. It's been my only bass up until last year when I was finally able to grab a 5-string (Cort B5).
The Hohner has been in its case for the most part since then as I'm trying to build experience on the 5. I'm shooting for a fretless next and both 5-string and fretless are unavailable in headless in my price target range where I live. This means that I don't (and will probably not) play headless regularly nowadays but it's staying in the stable for sure, a definite keeper.

A couple of weeks ago a 2018 Kiesel Osiris OB6 headless 6 pops up on CL. I'm so impressed with the LB76F I convince myself the fretted passive bolt-on Osiris is the perfect complement to it (maybe my chords will be in tune). IT IS! My first headless, it just a blast. I'm loving it.
You guys have a great and informative club here, I just wanted to share the joy.

Anyone have experience converting a headed bass to headless? By actually chopping off the headstock and using a headless conversion kit? I am mulling making a travel bass out of an Ibanez gio mikro...

It can be done but idk, I could've sworn there was a thread open about that idea around here. Try a TB search.

That would make the decapitation INFINITELY easier! You just leave enough behind the nut to attach these and you still have access to the truss rod and an independent nut, if you want swap it out later! Pricing them out in euros is making my head spin lol.

The biggest decision I found was the bridge because, it really plays a factor on string availability (ex. double ball end) and especially with flats.

If I get a mikro neck, I will just cut a minimalist body. Keep is super simple.

Ideas I'm playing with would leave a few inches of headstock, it won't happen for a while but we were looking at the cheap eBay bridges and a stump of a headstock just to prevent the cut end of the strings being exposed.
Hi TrustRod, - Cut string ends can be dealt with, they can be "retracted" into the hole in the string lock at the nut. I'm new to headless basses, so I searched YouTube for "Kiesel Vader string change". A video came up where the guy pulls the string through the head hand-tight, then tightens the locking set screw. He then cuts the string as close to the head as possible. Then he loosens the set screw slightly while tensioning the string via the tuner at the bridge. The cut string end creeps slowly back into the hole. He feels the cut string end with his finger as it disappears into the string lock hole and stops tensioning when it no longer sticks out. Then he re-tightens the locking set screw.
I've been following this procedure and it works, although I can see an issue if you over-tension the string and it pulls completely through the nut. Getting it back through the nut without the excess string to pull it through could be a problem. I do this part very slowly.
