Headless Club???

It's good to find a place where owning one of these

isn't seen as odd. Looking back through the thread it seems the only thing that's odd is only having one.

I bought my B2A V new in 2000 I think. My first headless, my first 5 string, my first active, my first neck-through. I've always enjoyed playing it, though it takes me a little while to remember how to hold it and (as vvvmmm mentioned) how to hit the right fret. I'm a big fan of Ned Steinberger's designs. I have one of his cellos and it's quite a piece of work.

I've just got it out of storage after not playing bass for some years and it's in fine condition and was within a few cents of being in tune. Probably it deserves the original strings being replaced, to see me through the next 20 years...

It could use a tiny bit of fretwork to play it's best, but it's definitely giggable right now - once I get it to hang on a strap comfortably, I'll start making it earn it's keep... Since it's brand new, I'll wait a while before having my luthier buddy work his magic... I typically prefer to buy used instruments for just that reason - the neck is well settled on them... In this case, with the 17% discount MF was offering me, I would've paid more for a used version...

I think I like the stock passive pickups - although not all that hot, they sound pretty good to my ear... The real test will be how it sounds in a band mix...

Is this club still kickin? I built a pair of Solo kits (one Guitar, one bass) so I've *really* lost mah head!!!

I modded the bass out of the box with a Nordy Big Blade and a Big BladeMan and Noll 4XM 4 band preamp. If you look on the left of of the Big Blade man, you'll see the circuit from a Seymour Duncan TripleShot that I cut out of the HB frame so I could kill either coil or go Series or Parallel...

The Guitar was done with Humbrol paints in a Borax swirl dip (little messy BECAUSE WOOD FLOATS, D'OH) and the bass was painted with a method closer to acrylic pour art, but with Testors enamels instead...

If the club is still rollin may I get a number plz?

I'm still deciding if I want to buy a string adapter or not - I actually like the stock strings, so I'm considering just stocking up on those instead of buying the adapter...

Double ball are great until you can't find them... stocking up is a necessity...

Yeah, I figured that - since I've never broken a bass string, and own a bunch of other basses, I'm thinking that having a couple sets on hand should cover me pretty well... I tend to prefer well broken in rounds, so strings aren't usually that much of an issue for me - if it becomes an issue, I'll get an adapter, though...

I used to own a Steinberger XP-2 back in the 90's (Still kicking myself for selling it!) but one thing that suck about the bridge systems beyond finding the DB strings were the claw that held the ball gave so I was S.o.L. till I could get a new one...

TL;DR
Calibrated strings are designed specifically for the transtrem systems, so if you don't have a TransTrem, its a non issue, you are good to go.

Nice 'custom paint' headless guitar and bass.. I didn't custom paint mine..

Here is picture of Mach1 pj bass and Cort Space G2 (I removed the ring from neck)


the Mach1 headless PJ bass (black) had a ton of mojo I basically fixed some of the paint chips, put shielding paint in the electronic cavity, made sure wiring was good and has Jescar SS frets installed.. the original PJ were ok so I set aside the new guitarfetish hot PJ pickups I bought.

The Cort Space G2 headless travel electric guitar (cream pearl) with three knobs and no switch (VVT).. one volume pot was frozen (detox-it could budge it), upgrade all pots (two bourn 500k and one push-pull 500k linear pot for out of phase neck) pickup upgrade to SD p-rail with triple shot ring, put shielding paint in electronic cavity, and Jescar SS frets installed, also placed DNA fretboard stickers..
