Headlights have become way too bright

How about Mega pick up trucks behind you.

I forgot to mention that some models (hid I believe) are self cleaning and self levelling. These should automatically adjust, however, when these are tested, they are usually tested with only one person in the car, so the functionality is no tested properly.

There are people around here with big pickup trucks with 6 headlights. WHY?????????? They are so bright that it feels like the retinas in my eyes are being burned out. There is no reason for all those lights on a vehicle. I have even seen trucks with big spotlights mounted on the hood above the factory lights and they will have the spotlights on while driving along city streets.

In many cases there is a very simple fix to this, it is located at the left hand side of the steering wheel (right in UK) which is a little dial that allows you to aim your lights down.

On what cars? I have a 2015 Honda and a 2017 Infiniti and neither have this option?

If a vehicle is behind you with blinding lights, you can just dim your rear view mirror.
Mine has a little flip switch on the back of it that can let you dim it.

Did you miss the part that I wouldn't turn my brights on unless the other driver turned their on?
Did you miss the part where I would turn my brights off after the other driver turned their off?
Where did you read that I would be playing chicken with the other driver?
I wouldn't be blinded because I know how to not look directly into a light source.
I've had police flash me because they thought I had brights on and I flashed them back to show them my brights were not on. Never been pulled over that.

Flashing is not the same as keeping your brights on until the other guy dims his.
Suppose the other guy is playing the same game, waiting for you to dim yours.
Two brights can make a wrong.

Kids drop those fancy bulbs in their factory housings that aren't made for those fancy bulbs. The light scatters everywhere and blinds people driving toward them while reducing their own visibility.
Same deal with those cheapo HID 'conversion kits'.

I drive a lot at night, and for years have worn prescription glasses with some sort of glare-reducing coating, which helps greatly.

I presume there are standards in place for emergency lighting on responder vehicles and those standards dictate, in a lot if legalese, what is necessary.

Maybe it is not obligatory in the US, but in EU it has been obligatory for years for the car to have the function (except the auto adjusting ones). Here it is only not obligatory on 2 seater sports cars (they tried to fail my Crossfire for not having it until I pointed out it was a 2 seater).

Not just not obligatory - but almost completely non-existent.

A small number of cars have auto adjust, but none I've ever seen have manual adjust.

You can adjust the headlights by adjusting the brackets they mount on (there are adjustment screws) but it is not something you can do every 5 minutes. The joy of the adjustment dial is you can always have your beam at the correct height just by taking 1 second to adjust it (but even here where it is obligatory, 90% of drivers just ignore it!)

Probably a bit more than $3 if there is more than a switch on the dash involved, say, a couple of motors and associated wiring harness.

My GTI and Alltrack both have the bi-xenon lighting option. The headlights auto-adjust their height and the beams swivel into corners. There's no separate high-beam lamp. I think a physical shutter raises and lowers to control the lighting pattern. I loves me them lights.





Doesn't Europe also require wipers on the headlights?
