I practice and record with headphones; totally ampless when I'm not playing with a band.

Setup:
Bass -> pedalboards -> Jule Monique -> RME Fireface UCX -> FL Studio 12 & VSTs (usually at least Two Notes Torpedo Wall Of Sound III) -> back to Fireface -> SPL 2Control -> AKG K712 Pro

I can make it sound almost exactly like my amped setup when I need to, and everything is always ready for recording. The frequency response on the K712 Pros is excellent for playing bass.

I use Sennheiser Hd650s. I have a headphone tube amp powering those. Then I have a DAC that goes into a 3 Leaf audio Enabler, which then goes back into the tube amp. Here's what it used to look like. The korg was replaced with the Enabler.

I used to plug $15 unknown brand headphones to my combo amp. But ever since I've discovered that there are such thing as the Vox amPhones and amPlug2 Bass, I bought these two and use them alternately. Like others have said, these two give freedom to practice in any places compared the first method.

AFAIK only the amPlug2 Bass gives the options of drum patterns and metronome clicks. I'm not aware that the amPhones can also do this.

Most of my personal practice time is spent under headphones. SHURE SRH440's and I use a DigiTech BP200 as my headphone amp. It has aux in plus phones out in addition to main line in/out. Pretty straight forward set up for practice and playing along with tunes.

That's exactly what I do late at night when its quiet I plug my active 18v 3-band EQ bass guitar into all my rack mount effects then into my Tascam CD trainer and use my Audio Technical M-50 headphones with a 2 sided 1/8" aux cable going into the line in on my Tascam and plug my touch phone into the other end and I can jam my Bass by it self or with CD music or on my phone offline YouTube videos and 300 some songs on my phone I can jam my Bass loud as a concert with any song I want on CD or YouTube video's or Songs on my phone. That AWESOME! Anytime I want jam my Bass to anything, video's, songs and CD's.:thumbsup: :bassist::bassist: In total silence and not bug anyone or have to wait till the next day to jam because I can't make noise that late at night. Now I can and I got a Y adapter so other people can listen to exactly what I'm hearing with 2 sets of headphones. I'm going to get an ABC box and my lead guitarist can plug into his equipment and then into the Tascam and both of us can jam loud with headphones and be able to hear each other and with Music we can practice and jam to, or just guitar and Bass together with no music just our guitars.TASCAMS ARE AWESOME!!!!

Hey friends! I have a question. I play through zoom b1on when i'm at home in the evenings. Using closed headphoned Seinheiser HD201. The problem is that sound wich i get is... Emmm... Closed too if you know what i mean. Not brigth, like from a barrel. Not totaly, but noticible. I've played with settings in EQ, compressors and limiters but still cant get more clear sound. Or it is a fate of closed headphones and i just need to get used to it?

Using a Zoom B1Xon and AKG K240 Studio sounds fine to my ears but the headphones are semi-open...

Features/price, the B1on is unbeatable. Same price as an Amplug and with so many other features thrown in. I use mine with Samson SR850 headphones - also very decent and apparently the same as Superlux HD668B.

I've never used a Zoom B-1, but I do use a Tascam Bass trainer, and I plug my active Bass into all my rack mount gear, then into the Tascam with my closed-back Audio-Technica M50 headphones on and jam my Bass by itself and with music and it sounds frickin awesome, clear as a bell or however else I want it to sound. It actually sounds the same on my headphones as on my Bass cabinet out loud.:thumbsup: :bassist::bassist:

Yes I love my like Amplug but keep in mind the following...
