Heaviest Bass You've Ever Owned?

Probably my old Ibanez ATK-305. Definitely in the upper 11lb range.

Oof. Hello Mr. Chiropractor!

Wonder if he eventually started praying for shorter sets? :)

I seem to recall something about back and/or shoulder pain. I also seem to recollect something about sitting, but my memory is foggy on that.

I do not gig my 1980 Jazz Bass for this reason - I have left it on the shoulder too long 2 or so times and that was enough for me. I do use it to record and rehearse with though, and it is just fine for that.

I don't gig, and almost always play seated, but just prefer a lighter bass for some reason. Probably missing out on some excellent instruments.
Even when I was getting started playing some,er, 45 years ago,, I preferred lighter weight basses.
I think the whole “heavier means better tone” argument is apocryphal.
Now that I’m getting (gotten?) older, and facing hernia surgery for the 2nd time, I really value ny lighter basses. I’m still hoping to gig, standing, in 2022, but we will just have to see how the universe aligns.

Three stand out in my memory, though I never weighed them:

1) My first Warmoth build, a fretless P-bass with a solid birdseye maple body and neck

2) My first 5-string, a red 1988 Wal 5

3) My first 6-string, a 1990 Warwick Thumb 6 neck-through

My current Curbow singlecut 6 is no lightweight, either, but it’s an amazing instrument…

Accordion, to a bathroom scale my former German Warwick 6 string was almost 13lbs. But it may very well have been heavier, and that is the reason it is “former”

currently I have 2 that are 11.1lbs accordion to my new luggage scale.

the rest range from 6.5 to 9.5lbs
