I just weighed my 74 jazz bass and its 13.5lb... you need a 4" strap to avoid any shoulder dislocation.

My heaviest is also my best sounding bass, a Warwick Steve Bailey Signature 5. Weighs 12.5# with the steel pickguard. The belly curve and great balance help make the weight more manageable, the tone makes the bass though.
