Long time lurker, first time poster! I've been a guitarist/bassist since the late 90's and am looking to get a lot more serious about my bass skills and improve my rig, since I'm basically stuck in the late 90's! I've got some unique "challenges" as my hands are extremely tiny and most bass rigs weigh more than I do, LOL. Your community has been very helpful so far and I'm looking forward to being an active part of it!

I've been playing bass for the past 30 years.So far I've used a Fender Jazz bass.Recently I purchased a Fender Squier Short Scale Bass and love it.Go to a music store and try one.Mine has a p pickup and a j pickup.The J pickup is not the best.Don't know what kind of music you play but I would think you could find a short scale to match your style.Ibanez makes a really nice short scale.

Hi Dave, I have a '79 Fender Musicmaster but I've never liked the sound of it, so I've wound up playing my '01 Jazz more often than not, and I picked up a Fender Zone last weekend. I'm liking the Jazz neck and small body. I actually think it's the curve of the neck more than the scale - the Musicmaster's neck is a lot fatter. My hands are actually below the first percentile for women's hand sizes, so I'm probably crazy for playing bass anyway, but it's hard to resist its siren song!

Hey Baltimore friends,

I'm also bassed in Baltimore. The Epiphone EB-0 is a great short scale bass. It was my first bass I got, one of those starter packs, but I have to say, when my Fender Jazz 24 was having electrical issues this past year, I got out the Epi for a Jazz ensemble I was playing with and was super impressed with the tone and playability. For a cheap little starter bass the thing sounds great! Not to mention looks totally bad@ss! The neck is nice and narrow and the strings are a good distance apart. Give one a go sometime, you won't be sorry!
