Hello from the town of Chía, Colombia in South America (just outside the capital, Bogotá).
I'm actually from the US/UK, and I think I had an old account on TalkBass when I was living in the UK about 15 years ago, but I would have been inactive for quite a while and I couldn't find any old account info of mine anyway ... so, for all intents and purposes, I'm a new member.
I found myself reading a lot of TalkBass threads while googling around for info, and figured that meant I should probably (re)join.
In origin, I'm a transplanted guitar player, and I got a bass about 30 years ago originally because the newbie bass player in my first band was a lefty and, as a righty, I had difficulty helping write bass parts on his bass -- and, really, I just wanted a bass anyway and that was a good excuse. I got a used Rickenbacker 4001 (because I was/am a giant fan of Lemmy, though actually much more his melodic playing in Hawkwind than the more rhythmic stuff in Motörhead), and (with some modifications) it has been my sole bass for most of the last 30 years. I just recently got a used Epiphone T-bird Pro IV (I like T-birds, but they are thin on the ground in Colombia) so that I could keep it in C# standard while the Rick stayed in E standard. Two basses in 30 years! 
I've gigged in pub bands as a bass player on three continents but now I mostly do home-recording stuff, and my baritone voice is better suited by low tunings. 
I listen to a pretty wide range of music, from folk to classical, but when I'm composing with guitar or bass, it's usually '70s-inflected rock and metal that comes out.
