Hello from Manchester, UK

Hello all,
I'm Phil, 57 (what? how?) from Manchester in the UK.
I just started learning to play bass a couple of months ago. I played guitar years ago, but only dabble now. I've also played a few other instruments, but almost entirely by ear.
I'm trying to learn bass 'properly'... learning the notes on the stave and the fretboard, learning a bit about music theory etc.
It feels like slow going, because my ancient brain struggles with memorization of some types of information, like... notes on the stave and the fretboard!
I've also been learning a few classic simple tunes (Good Vibrations, Walking on the Moon etc), by ear and tab, but I want to drop the tab as soon as possible.
I bought myself a Jackson Spectra JS3Q and played through a headphone amp for a few weeks until getting a PJB Double 4 a couple of weeks ago.
So far I'm loving the whole thing. Playing along with great groovy tunes is amazingly satisfying. I wish I'd known it this was this enjoyable years ago!
I'm a bit of a gear geek as well, so I'm hoping to learn a lot from this forum about music and tech. Maybe one day I can contribute, but to be honest, that's probably a while away yet!

Thanks for reading, hope to catch you soon!
