Greetings from Down Under! I'm a completely fresh player. And by fresh I mean I don't know what I'm doing. This is pretty much my first instrument...

I found a bass guitar on sale for $100 and decided to pick it up, and for the past 2-3 months when I'm not buried in homework or youtube videos I've been trying to inaccurately reproduce bass lines from my playlist with these shoddy ears. At the very least, it has made me listen more actively to music to search for that bass hiding under all those other instruments. But hey, at least I can play as loud as I want in my room without anyone getting angry!

Looking forward to picking up some groovy moves and meeting fresh people! And by fresh I mean both new and cool.

I assume you have a list of songs you would like to find a bass line for. Instead of letting your ears pick out what the original artist did.

Why not start at the beginnings and get some scales, chord tones and arpeggios under your fingers and into muscle memory? This way when you see or hear a chord your fingers know what to do with this information. That fish thing.....

The getting started sticky in the General Instruction section can help with that. How to get started? and the book Bass Guitar for Dummies is a good getting started book. As is www.studybass.com and ole Google usually finds what I need.

Look over that "How to get started" link and then ask specific questions in the correct sub-forum - someone will jump on it.
