Help A Couple TBers Make A Deal

So I have this stingray for sale.

For Sale/Trade - 2007 Musicman Stingray LE

badbobbyh is offering his usa precision for trade.

What we'd both like to know is what is a fair amount of money to exchange hands. My guess is the stingray is even or worth more than the precision but not worth less. So we decided to set up a poll to help us reach a fair deal. This is not a thread about which one you'd rather have, but what is a fair trade. Any help would be appreciated.

Sunset Orange is kind of a hot Fender color on the used market. I would say that's an even trade. I would think it would be pretty easy to get close to $1000 for the orange precision and that is likely the going rate for that Stingray as well.

Keep the stingray! or ask $250 + the orange p bass

The P bass is missing a knob and has non original pickups. If he throws in the original pickups even swap and call it a day. If not, get $50 from the P bass guy toward a set of period correct pickups if you should ever want to sell. Both are nice basses so I wouldn't pick nits over a few bucks.

Meh, orange is nice but that's just a '07 mia p bass. The limited edition sr is more expensive!

I voted $100 just because it sounds like you want a little money to make you feel good about the trade. IMO straight up would still give both parties a great NBD.

If say it's a fair swap, but I have a soft spot for those translucent orange fenders. Besides, I don't see cash values as important in trades as both sides liking the other bass.

I was going by previous sales and the orange ones definitely sell for more than the standard colors. I did miss the replaced pickups. I would agree you would want those thrown into the deal. Standard Stingrays like that don't sell for massive amounts on the used market. I stick by them being equal in value.

^ This post is a voice of experience: I agree - the simpler, the better. Don't pick-nits over the retail difference, but I have to agree that do the even swap if the original Fender parts are included......I disagree with the $50 disparity if the original parts arent included: It would more likely be $150 but I would settle on $100

Mid to late 2000's Stingrays sell all the time for around $800. Blues aren't always the easiest of sells regardless of rarity where as that orange would sell fairly quickly. Since the Stingray has been listed for 3 months unsold I would not think it's worth more than that Precision (with the original pickup of course).

$150 is a reasonable offer, that p bass is modified (emg pickups) and there is no knob on the tone pot!

There are three photos and only one has the missing knob. I think it has both knobs. And the pickguard is stock for that color. If I was the owner of the Stingray I would be happy to ask for money on top of the trade. If I was the owner of the Precision I would totally pass. It should be cake to get $1000 for that Precision and the Stingray has been sitting for 3 months at that price. I would value the Ray at about $850-900 on the used market right now.
