HELP : "breathe in" effect

It's been a couple month I regularly think of it without finding what the hell this kind of effect could be : I'm searching something like an enveloppe (a loooong enveloppe) making the bass sound "breathing" or "inhaling" (ssssshhh), but inhaling IN and not out. Something I guess modern synths can have, I guess mainly in stereo (and that surely would also have some physical effect onto the speaker).

I'm really sorry but I don't have any sound example to share, it's just something I'm sure I've heard already...

Maybe it could be a tweak of some phaser/flanger or so, or several effects put together, but I guess I've listened to almost effects vids / sample that I could find in this category without success.

Does anyone here have an idea, please ?

Try volume swells? Roll your pinky on the volume knob to increase the volume from 0 while you pluck.

Are you talking about a volume ramp up, or a reversed delay, or a filter sweeping from low frequencies to high, or... ?

Thanks everyone for the attempts : I know it's VERY hard to try to help me without a sound and such a poor description !

Anyway, it's definitely not a volume swell, it's really an effect that can only be produced by an external device. I' don't know if the PH3 can make it, never heard a demo that could fit, but maybe... Do you please have samples of what you meant ? Anyway, the PH3 is very good at doing the "breath" - song ! - effect from the pink Floyd !

I don't know much of the the filter sweepin : what is it / could it be ? Do you have references of pedals ?

Anyway this is certainly a filter of some kind, with some phasing inside ; it's something very dry, raw, an enveloppe to the sound, but only on the "contour", the bass sound is inside. After reflexion, something that could seem like a tweak of the effect(s) used in Mirwais "Producion / Never Young Again" at 4:01 on the lead synth, even if it's hard to distinguish between the effect and the basssynth sound by itself... The "breath in" is there, but what I seek is in a more "space" way, again more present in that way, and certainly set longer. Filter sweeping maybe, so ? With a little bit of special phase, flange and/or something ??? All of what I heard already sound mostly "out" and not "in"...

I would guess that you need a delay that has a reverse setting and a mix control so you can eliminate the dry signal. The only problem is that when playing along with stuff, you need to pluck the strings a little before the notes are supposed to sound, so that they fall in the correct spots...

Since it's hard to imagine exactly what part of that you want to emulate, and it's a synth sound that sounds totally unlike a bass, I'd say you need a phaser. Doesn't sound like an only-upward phaser, but the PH-3 mentioned above does that if you need it.

A Digitech Bass Synth Wah, Electro-Harmonix Bassballs, Korg G5, or other formant filter will get you close.

I'd probably go Bass Micro Synth (mix of just the sub-octave and octave up voices) -> Bassballs for that.
