Last night I plugged my bass into a power box at a venue, turned it on, and all hell broke loose. The cab emitted an extremely loud "pop," a couple of sparks shot out of the front grill of the head, and the head began smoking and giving off an odor of melted plastic. Turns out, I had plugged into the lighting grid. (I know, bonehead move, but the boxes had been laid out all around the area we were supposed to play, the sound engineer was totally AWOL, and we only had 20 minutes to set up, sound check, and change. Plus, in my 8 years of semi-professional playing, I have never heard of a separate, low-voltage channel for stage backlighting. Maybe I'm just a noob; who knows!)
I'm trying to figure out what exactly went wrong here. I've yet to dissemble the head, as I'd like a professional to take a look, but professional gear doctors are few and far between in my area. Did I simply blow a fuse? Do solid-state heads like the 1001RB even have fuses? Is it a transformer issue? Is my amp totally toast? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
