I was playing through my 700RBII last night, and experienced a problem for the first time. I was setting up for band practice, playing through the amp and making some EQ adjustments. I may or may not have engaged/disengaged the -14db pad (I can't remember, but sometimes I have the pad engaged when I am just playing at lower volume). All the sudden, the volume gradually just tapered off to zero -- taking about 10-15 seconds from initial volume to totally silent. No pops, no crackling, no squeaks, no smoke, no smell of burning cable, no noticeable warning of something wrong except the drop in volume. I do not recall if the clipping light came on, but I don't think it did. I checked all the cables (instrument, speaker, power) and everything seemed to be connected properly. Turning the amp off/on didn't do anything to correct the problem. I disconnected the amp and used my backup for practice. Later, I plugged the 700RBII in again, and it worked OK at first, then slowly died again when I messed with the -14db switch.
• Could the -14db switch be the culprit, or just coincidental to a larger problem with the preamp? Maybe it just needs a good cleaning with Deoxit?
• I've read some threads about the FX loop jacks causing problems -- could this be a possible cause?
I know the simple answer is to send it in to the amp tech. However, I've been thinking about buying an MB500, and I'd rather not rack up a big repair bill on the 700RBII if I can help it.
