Help. How would you interpret installation date on this battery label?

Don't know why they don't come up with a better identifying label than that. Guess that would be too easy.
With notable exception of some types like AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) lead-acid batteries rarely have service life exceeding 10 years. (This, and energy density, are main reasons why energy storage is a hot technology.) So all you really 'need' is month and last digit of manufacturing date. So you don't have to retool labels very often and you can buy them in large quantity. But I expect the next wave of product improvement (and product liability) will bring us individual serial numbers and personalized date information...

I tend to buy 'premium' batteries any more, because my experience has been that the delivered quality (service life) rises faster than the price. The battery in my truck is in its 8th year of service, and while this is neither AZ nor AK, we do have hot summers and cold winters... I was once told the 'rule of thumb' on batteries is $1 a month. I beat that a couple of years ago.
 
one thing is sure. if you bought it today they would take out the 7 and that is a LONG way from any 1 in battery years. It don't owe you nuthin' if it needs to be replaced

seems the newest that code could be is 2011
 

I just sent photo and talked to customer support at the battery factory in Pennsylvania. They said that it is either a 2001 or 2011. They changed their coding a few years ago to avoid this type of confusion. They also said some of their batteries have been known to last 20 years if well maintained. Their final advice was, " If it ain't broke, then don't fix it.

Just had a look at a map - that factory is about 20 mi from my house...
Temp thread hijack.

When I was in college I worked as a janitor part time and one of my stops was cleaning the cafeteria at the Johnson Controls battery factory in Batavia, Illinois.

I couldn't figure out why this 1 factory among the several on my list had so few women working there. And why the few that were there were all old.

I found out that the lead for the batteries is so pervasive in the factory environment that it eventually gets into the blood of every employee and they are monitored for safety levels every month. Since it's unacceptable to risk elevated lead levels in the blood during pregnancy, the company just prohibits any woman who is capable of bearing children from working there.
