Help identifying Fender Jazz Bass serial

Hi.

I have a Fender Jazz Bass with no serial on the head (back of neck sanded all the way down) - it's legit though.

I knew it was a 1996 American when I got it 6 years ago, but I still wanted to know the specific model at some point, but was in no rush to do so. And then a week ago I finally took the time to pull apart the neck to see if I could find the serial-number. But to my surprise, the serial doesn't match anything I can find on fender.com, or other sites for that matter.

The serial-number seems to be C48618 and the year says 1996.

Can anyone shed some light on the matter?

Looks like an American Standard to me. They started in 1995 with the introduction of the reinforced neck with graphit rods.
1996 should have an N6 serial at the back of the headstock (which is sanded off) and I see the older style 80ties heavy tuning machines, only string through bridge - is also correct for '96.
The Neckplate should only say: Fender. The addition: Corona California apeared around 1997/98.

Thank you for the information. I guess that was also what I figured, but I'm still perplexed about the body "serial".
Do you know if it's typical for '96 American Standard to not include the serial between the neck and the body? I just understood that this was where you should look when in doubt.

C48618 is not the serial number. I guess its just a internal number at the body.
